“Rebecca…” I groan, my fingers digging into her hips.

Her eyes linger on my mouth for a moment longer before she slowly lifts them to meet mine.

“I can’t be responsible for what I’ll do if you keep watching me like that.”

“I don’t watch you in any way,” she whispers softly.

“Liar.” Her eyes widen in surprise at the accusation. Unclenching my fingers, I skim the back of my hand over her cheek, brushing her hair out of her face. My eyes trace my movement, taking in every little detail about her. The way her lips part. Her chest rises at the soft intake of breath. Color floods her cheeks at my touch. Goosebumps rise on her skin.

Sliding my hand to her stomach, I pull her flush against me, my head bending down, lips brushing against the shell of her ear. “You can say anything you want, Red, but your body will always reveal the truth,” I whisper, my voice coming outhusky as I fight the surge of lust cursing through me. “Always.”

A shudder runs through her body at my words, her eyes squeezing shut. “Miguel…”

Whatever she wanted to say was lost when a loud bang came from somewhere in the house, making us both jump in surprise.

“Miguel?” Mrs. Santiago calls from downstairs.

“Shit.”

Rebecca’s eyes shoot open, panic flaring in her irises. She quickly pulls out of my grasp, her hand reaching out to smooth her hair.

“Are you in here?”

“Go,” she whispers.

“Rebecca…”

“Go,” she hisses softly. “I have to lock up, and then we have things to do.”

I rake my fingers through my hair, my jaw clenching. “Fine.”

With one last look at her, I step out of the room and take a deep breath to collect myself. My gaze falls down to the bulge in my pants.

“Miguel?” Mrs. Santiago calls again, then mutters more quietly, “Where is that boy?”

You know how screwed you are when not even the fact that my best friend’s mother almost caught us helps with my hard-on. Rearranging myself, I quietly move down the stairs. Following the sound of rustling, I find Emmett’s mother in the kitchen placing plastic containers into the fridge. She must hear me because she looks over her shoulder. “There you are! I’ve been looking for you.”

“Sorry, Mrs. S., I was in the bathroom,” I lie.

She waves me off. “It’s all good. C’mon, help me get all the food from the car.”

I followher as she marches out of the kitchen like a woman on a mission. “Kate hasn’t been feeling well lately, so I decided I’d make some side dishes for you kids so she doesn’t have to worry about it. Becky, what are you doing here?”

Mrs. Santiago opens her arms and wraps them around Rebecca. Her gaze meets mine over her shoulder.

When she had the time to sneak out, I had no idea.

Rebecca pulls back. “Kate mentioned needing help with the party, so I decided to come early.”

“That’s so nice of you.” Mrs. S. pats Rebecca’s shoulder, her gaze moving between the two of us. “C’mon, you two, we have a lot of work to do.”

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the hotshot defenseman himself, and here I thought you were too good for us now that you’re a big star.” A hand slaps me over the shoulder as Timothy and Jamie come into view.

“I was always too big of a star for you, so I don’t see how a new address changes that,” I throw right back.

“Maybe you had too big of a stick stuck up your ass,” Timothy chuckles as he pulls me into a half-hug. “It’s good to see you, man.”

“You too,” I agree, shifting my attention to Jamie, who extends his hand. “How have you guys been doing? What are you up to?”
