“No, it’s fine. Jessica is opening this morning, so I’ll double-check if she can stay until I get back, and I can do the tasting.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, I’ll figure something out.”
Kate lets out a long breath. “Thank you. I owe you.”
“Oh, please. Don’t you dare mention it. I’ll pick something out. Is there a particular flavor you guys don’t want?”
“I don’t care. I don’t want anything right now. Just thinking about food makes me want to puke. But pick something tasty?”
“Tasty, gotcha. You try to rest, okay? And call if you need anything.”
“Mhmm…” Kate murmurs, clearly out of it.
I let out a small chuckle. “Go to bed, Kate.”
“Will do.”
Shaking my head, I hang up and open my messages. First, I texted Jessica to see if she could hold the fort until I got back. Her confirmation is instant. Then, I opened the thread with Emmett.
Me:
I’m pretty sure your fiancé fell asleep in the bathroom, it might be good if you went home and put her to bed.
Emmett:
Shit.
I thought she’d feel better by now.
I’ll go check in on her. Thanks for letting me know.
Me:
No worries. You take care of her. I’ll go for the cake tasting later.
Emmett:
Double shit. I completely forgot about that.
Me:
Why am I not surprised?
You take care of Kate. I’ll figure the whole cake thing out.
Emmett:
You’re the best.
Me:
Remember that before you piss me off next time.
Placing the phone on the counter, I grab my plate and join Mom and Chase.
“What was that all about?” Chase asks.
