The tiger, no longer a bright white as the demon’s blood marred its beautiful coat, jumped off Troian just as a fiery hole opened beneath it. Faster than Daniel could say, “Gone,” Troian’s demonic body and those of its minions were sucked into the screaming, swirling abyss, and the hole snapped close. Silence prevailed until Sy’s choked laughter started and smiles grew across the faces of the current and former angels.

“Nate!”

Daniel watched Elijah run across the room in a zig-zag of avoiding overturned chairs and throw himself into Nate’s arms. When Nate’s wings enclosed the two of them in a cocoon of privacy, Daniel found the tiger had moved, sitting prettily a few yards away.

“Theo?” Daniel asked again, and when the tiger nodded, Daniel closed the distance between them. He stood in front of the tiger, unsure if he could touch the majestic creature. Theo’s head was above his, but as he stood there, the tiger shrunk until their heads were almost the same height, and Daniel could look into the sky-blue eyes he loved.

“You did it! I can’t believe it. Holy shit, that was amazing, and I probably shouldn’t say that anymore, but wow… You were amazing.”

Theo ducked his head and bumped Daniel’s chest, and that broke any compulsion he had to not touch. He threw his arms around the tiger, pressing his face into the white fur of its neck. “Thank you for protecting me.”

Theo’s rumbling purr and calming warmth had Daniel’s heartcha-thunking. “I—”

Before he could finish telling Theo that he loved him, Heaven’s light enveloped Theo. He disappeared from Daniel’s arms, leaving him lurching and almost falling over with the weight he’d been pressing against the tiger.

Daniel turned to face the hallway, sure that any second Theo would emerge as himself again. They all waited, gathering around Daniel, congratulating him on being Theo’s mate, and welcoming him to the family.

Nate and Elijah were hung up on each other, kissing and hugging, both crying for some unknown reason, and though Daniel cared, he also didn’t because he wanted his angel. Frustrated with the delay, he stepped away from his new friends, angels and humans alike, and tilted his head back to stare at the concrete ceiling. He closed his eyes and once more prayed for God’s mercy.

“Give him back. Please. You promised him. You promised me. He loves me and I love him. So, please, God, Father, King, return my love to me.”

Thelial

“What am I doing here?” Thelial stormed across the garden to kneel at Father’s feet. “I should be on Earth with Daniel. He declared his love for me, and you know I already love him.”

Adonai’s cherubic cheeks stained with a bright blush. “I know you do, and I know he loves you, too. But maybe I was too hasty…”

“Father, please. His soul is calling to me.”

Adonai tapped his lips and rubbed his chin, hemming and hawing a moment before breaking into a wide grin. His facial features morphed into the older man and settled into the grandfatherly visage Theo liked. “My dear son, why would I make you wait? Remember, I chose you. I only brought you here to fully heal you, because once you are home with Daniel, you’re on your own. Do try to not get hurt.”

He laid his palms on Theo’s head, and a cascade of Adonai’s healing power flowed through him. “Be well, my son. Go in peace and love.” And for what might be the last time for a very long time, Heaven’s light surrounded Theo.

He paced from the locker room, breaking into a run upon hearing his chosen mate’s plea. “He loves me and I love him. So, please, God, Father, King, return my love to me.”

“Here I am,” Theo shouted as he ran to Daniel, sweeping his beloved into his arms and spinning him around. After setting Daniel on his feet, Theo cradled his mate’s face between his hands and drew him closer.

“I love you, Daniel, now and forevermore,” he whispered against his mate’s lips, and then he kissed him. The first kiss of the rest of their lives.
