I fisted him tighter, pulled him towards me, and slammed him even harder against the wall. “Stay away from my woman or I swear I'll slit your throat and feed your guts to the dogs.

Get the hell out of here. Now!”

Aiden hissed and cursed. ”We’re not done yet, Igor, she has something that belongs to me!”

He straightened his shirt and went to his car, where his injured men were waiting for him.

His glare could have burned a hole in my head as they sped away.

A mixture of relief and concern rose in me, my chest heaved heavily, and I put an arm around my abdomen. When I turned around, Alexei was helping Grace up from the ground and I frowned at him.

“She, um, got tossed to the ground during the fight between you and Aiden, boss,” he said, holding her arm while she dusted her jeans.

When her gaze rested on me, she left Alexei’s side and walked towards me, tears in her eyes, breathing heavily and her shoulders trembling. She looked up at me and could no longer hold back as she broke down.

I stretched my arms out to comfort her and she melted under my touch, drawing closer, resting her forehead on my chest.

“Do you understand that you are a moving target? You can’t fucking trust anyone right now. You don’t know how many men are still out there after you. You have something that can change the fate of so many influential people, even entire fucking organizations, Grace. This is

not a game; don’t you understand that?” I said harshly, “I'm the only one who can and will protect you.”

She took a step back, wiped the tears from her eyes, and cleared her throat.

“I just learned that Aiden is my half-brother, but what surprised me the most is that he also wants the envelope and was willing to kill me, his blood sister,” she broke down again.

“Who does something like that?”

I scoffed as we headed to my car. “Understand this, Grace. No one in the mafia is clean, not your father, not your brother...” I trailed off and looked at her. “Not even me and you already know that.”

She wiped her nose with the back of her hand, clenched her jaw, and assumed a confident stance.

“Then tell me, why is this envelope so important? What kind of information is it?” she yelled. “Answer me, Igor. Someone claiming to be my brother just tried to kill me over it. Don’t you think I deserve an answer?”

I had to smile inwardly, she was back again, but it didn't matter how upset she was, I couldn’t tell her, not yet. I shook my head and reached for her hand.

“No, you don’t. At least not right now. Come on, let’s go.”

“Fine”, she sighed and placed her still trembling hand in mine.

As she squeezed my hand, I had the strangest feeling that she wouldn't try to run away again.

Chapter 11 - Grace

The cars stopped in front of the entrance to his mansion, and we got out. His men took the cars back to the garage, while Igor and I went inside without saying a word.

Walking up the stairs, a sharp, burning pain surged through my thigh, making me wince with each step. As we entered the bedroom, it didn’t go unnoticed, of course, and Igor turned to me.

“What's wrong?” he asked, but I couldn’t bring myself to answer. The pain was intense, and I needed to see what was causing it.

I stared at the broken bathroom door; my heart began to race as I imagined his anger when he kicked it in. I chewed my bottom lip, holding back a grin. “I ...”

“Use the other one.” He growled.

I hadn’t even noticed that there was another door on the other side of his bedroom. But I had to go and see what was hurting so bad in my leg. Although I didn’t see any blood, something was wrong.

I closed the door behind me, still in shock from the scare Aiden had caused, and it irked me that Igor wasn't willing to tell me more about the envelope. What kind of information was it that could lead a brother to murder his sister in cold blood?

Gingerly, I began to take off my jeans and every movement sent a jolt of pain through my thigh. As I eased them off, my eyes fell on a dark, angry bruise that marred my skin. When I touched it, the pain intensified, and I hissed in discomfort.
