Joey

It doesn’t matter anyway. And personally, I don’t think you should show up, Ginny.

Ginny

Well, someone needs to do something. Mom cannot marry Cyrus again.

David

I love you, Gin and I wish you luck. But there are some battles that we cannot win.

Stella

I’m sorry that I can’t go with you. *sad face emoji*

Joey

I will not apologize for not coming, because we both know what will happen if I see Cyrus.

Ginny

You’re all the fucking worst.

But I love you and I will put my foot in his face for you, Davey.

David

You’re the best of us all.

She sent a middle finger emoji to the group and then switched to her conversation with Gavin. He’d attached a picture of Cedar and Copper curled up in bed with him and Ginny’s heart ached to be back there. When she’d left early that morning, only Cedar had gotten out of bed with her. She’d followed Ginny through the house as she got ready for her flight and had whined at the front door when Ginny left. But clearly being back with her dad and with Copper attached to her side, Cedar wasn’t missing her as much.

Ginny

I miss you already.

Gavin

We miss you too.

Have a safe flight and let me know when you land, okay?

Ginny

I will.

Gavin

Love you.

Ginny

Love you too.

Even typing those three words made her smile and Ginny had to press her lips together to fight back the giddy squeal building in her throat. She never imagined this kind of happiness and love and joy with someone else, but she had it and Gavin was the best of them all. He loved her just as she was and never expected anything other than what she presented. Ginny never attracted those kinds of people in the past.

When the announcement for her flight came over the speakers, Ginny put her phone away and took a deep breath. She had about four hours to gather her strength, find the words she needed to say and all the ways to convince her mother to not make this stupid mistake.
