A sound between a growl and huff came out of him and that’s when Ginny realized how close they were standing. This time, she didn’t use the table for support, she stood straight and arched an eyebrow as he inched even closer.

“You drive me fucking crazy,” he whispered, eyes dipping to her mouth. “And this is all I’ve been thinking about for weeks.”

Before she could respond, his mouth was on hers. Ginny’s eyes widened, contemplating between hesitating and giving in when Gavin started to pull away. This was what she wanted, right? To scratch that itch, to feel him against her. To remind herself how good it felt once upon a time. Lifting her hands, she knocked his cap off and kissed him back. Another sound came from him as his arms wound around her waist, hauling her against him. Ginny grabbed a handful of his hair as she tilted her head. Parting her lips, she flicked her tongue out as Gavin did the same, their bodies pressed flush. She could feel his heart beating furiously against her chest, the strong muscles in his torso and the way his biceps flexed against her sides.

Moaning as his tongue swept into her mouth, Ginny released the grip she had on his hair and wrapped her fingers around his throat, squeezing gently. Gavin’s grunt in response prompted her to squeeze a little harder, feeling his pulse flutter wildly against her thumb. His hands drifted to her ass and squeezed, lifting her onto the table and Ginny gasped when her brain finally caught up to what they were doing.

Wrenching her mouth away, Ginny stared at the hand wrapped around his throat as Gavin blinked those beautiful green eyes open to focus on her. It took him a second, but then his eyes widened and Gavin stumbled back, all contact between them broken.

“Don’t,” she said softly when he started to speak. “I wanted it too.”

“We shouldn’t,” was all he said before Gavin walked out of the room.

Ginny closed her eyes and rested a hand over her heart, to calm herself down. She was right, kissing Gavin Rhodes had completely altered her life. It had when they were teenagers and it certainly did when they were adults. And she still wanted more.

CHAPTER14

That kiss would forever be filedunderthings I shouldn’t have done, but want to do again. Gavin couldn’t believe he’d let their frustrations for each other get in the way of planning the event. He’d been so good all week, watching her move around in those irresistible clothes when she wasn’t looking but never doing anything more about it. Then Bronte had to leave him there to go help Spencer with an abandoned animal alert, forcing him to be around Ginny forhours. Thankfully he had so many invoices to pay and RSVPs to go through that he could stare at his laptop screen instead of his greatest temptation.

But Ginny wouldn’t let him be.

Of course it washerfault. If she’d just let him work, kept her distance and didn’t provoke him, they wouldn’t have been in that position. The combination of her dress, her tempting mouth and the crisp scent of her perfume really tipped him over the edge. That and Ginny being an absolute pain in his ass. It was like she flipped a switch in him and he reverted to the asshole he’d been in his office months ago.God, that had been a bad day.

Kissing Ginny, though. Better than his imagination, better than he remembered even. And that was the problem. He’d gotten so carried away, hands mapping that shapely body, grabbing her ass and squeezing—what had he been thinking? Then there was the hand around his throat. Gavin had been so caught off guard and yet so fucking turned on, he wanted more. If he hadn’t hoisted her up onto the table, Gavin had a feeling they would have crossed some dangerous lines.

He’d spent the last few weeks telling himself that Everleigh’s suggestion to ‘get her out of his system’ was a dumb way to deal with this, but maybe that’s exactly what they needed to do. Just give into their mutual desires once—because he knew that Ginny wanted him too, nobody kissed like that if they were just being polite—and then they’d be okay. And after the fundraiser was done, they could go back to their lives like nothing had ever happened.

Yeah, right.

Gavin had hid in his office after the kiss and he’d heard Ginny leave soon after. When he went back to the room Bronte had set up for the planning, Cedar gave him her most unimpressed look before leaving him there alone. He forced himself to work through the seating chart, following what Ginny had been doing. Even though her perfume still lingered in all the spaces. He’d finished with that bit of work when Bronte and Spencer returned, carrying in a crate of young dogs.

“What happened?” he asked as his brother set the crate down, looking dirty and disheveled. Cedar came over and rested her head over the edge of the crate, sniffing and eyeing the dogs, but did nothing else.

“Tossed on the side of the road. They’re dehydrated, but will survive,” Spencer explained, waving his hands at the dogs. “Could not identify the breed, but I’ll run some tests.”

“Areyouokay?” Spencer nodded, brushing a hand over his head, his face drawn and exhausted. “Spence. Tell me.”

“This was a hard one, man. Bronte…” he trailed off, gesturing to where the blonde had run off when they came in. Clearing his throat, Spencer set his hands on his hips and shook his head. “Uh, did you and Gin get everything done?”

Gavin nodded and didn’t bother hiding his grimace at what he’d done. “I kissed her.”

“Gavin.”

“She kissed me back!”

“Jesus, both of you are such a mess.”

Shrugging, Gavin squatted to check on the dogs himself. They had finally started responding to Cedar, sniffing at her and licking her. His dog sat there quietly, letting them get acquainted. There were four dogs and all of them were a combination of black, white and brown, making them look like cows. And since their coloring and general appearance didn’t give a hint of their breed, he couldn’t even assume what they were.

“I need your help.”

“You know I’ll help with the dogs, Gav, you don’t have to ask.”

Gavin shook his head and let the dogs sniff at his hand hanging over the side of the crate. “With Ginny.” Spencer flashed him an identifiable look and then nodded. “Could you give me her address? So I can talk to her.”

“So you can do something stupid again?”

“I’lltryto keep the stupid shit to a minimum. Please, Spence.”
