“You’ll be here in the morning, right?” he asked, voice small and cautious.

“This is my bedroom.”

“Just answer the question, Nia.”

Ginny leaned in and kissed his forehead. “I’ll be here in the morning.”

With a soft hum, he wrapped his hand around one of hers and closed his eyes. It didn’t take too long for his breathing to slow as he fell asleep and Ginny lay there, eyes tracing his face.

Just like she did three nights before everything fell apart.

Then

Nia was actually quite impressed with how late they’d been out that night. When Camilla told her that the last bonfire party of the summer was going to be explosive, Nia thought it was just a turn of phrase. Except, it had been pretty incredible. Fireworks, multiple fire pits and someone had even invited a locally-famous band to perform at the party. It was her last summer at Tybee and Nia wanted to end the whole thing in style. She knew that if she ever came back to the island, it would probably be with her own family in ten to fifteen years. So she wanted to make sure that she had the best time ever.

The five Rhodes boys flanked her as they walked down to the beach and she felt like royalty. Every girl on the island hated her, if they weren’t looking to fuck her, and all the boys were nervous about approaching her. But that didn’t stop them all from trying. The night had been good though. Lots of dancing, the food was probably the best they’d ever managed to score and the alcohol was flowing.

She’d lost track of Gavin at some point during the night, choosing to hang out with Spencer and their friends. But when the party started to wind down, bonfires were going out, Gavin found her. He was pretty drunk when his hand clamped around hers, tugging her towards the cove they often hid in. Before she could ask him what was going on, her back was pressed up against the wall and Gavin’s mouth was on hers. Nia could taste the mixture of alcohol on his tongue and while the kiss was amazing as always, she knew that it wasn’t right.

“How much have you had to drink, Little Rhodes?”

“Enough,” he mumbled, lips brushing down her jaw to her neck. Nia grabbed his face with both hands and pulled him back. “What?”

“Come on, let’s go home.”

He didn’t protest, but stumbled every so often as they made their way through the sand and back to the house. She could hear the other Rhodes boys in the kitchen, talking and laughing quietly. They could not see her and Gavin in this state, so she dragged him upstairs to his bedroom. Closing the door, Nia turned in time to see Gavin push off his boxers before collapsing into bed. Even after all this time of seeing him unclothed, knowing what his dick felt like inside her, the sight of Gavin Rhodes naked stalled her breathing.

“You joining me?”

Instead of answering, she got into bed with Gavin, but stayed on top of the covers because she had no intention of spending the whole night there. They lay facing each other and Gavin blinked slowly, like he was fighting sleep, as he watched her.

“The most beautiful person in the world.”

“Go to sleep, Gavin.”

One of his hands came up to cup her cheek, thumb stroking across her skin. “You are truly unreal.”

Despite wanting to roll her eyes at his words, Nia knew that he wasn’t saying them just to make her happy. Gavinmeantthe words. He always meant the words. But before either of them could say anything else, his hand dropped to the bed and a stuttered snore escaped him. Pressing her lips together, Nia fought back a laugh. Instead, she allowed herself to admire the boy who had wormed his way into her life.

Long lashes that fluttered against his cheeks, messy dark hair that he never took the time to comb or style. Gavin wasn’t just handsome, he was devastating and she hoped that when this summer ended, he would find someone who would love all those things about him. Someone who would see him for all that he was.

Sighing softly, Nia pressed a kiss to Gavin’s forehead and then slid out of bed. He said her name softly, almost in a whisper, and Nia froze at his bedroom door. One glance back at him told her that he was still asleep and she carefully snuck out of his room, closing the door quietly.

Saying goodbye to Gavin Rhodes would be the hardest thing and Nia wasn’t sure if she was ready for it.

CHAPTER24

A slight joltof her body woke Ginny up and her eyes snapped open to focus on the room. The closed curtains kept the sun out, but a few streaks of light had snuck their way through the gaps, alerting Ginny to the fact that it was no longer night. Other than the alarming dream of Gavin tossing a velvet box at her and walking away, Ginny had slept through the night. Peacefully, she might add.

Then she remembered that she wasn’t alone in bed. Gavin’s soft breathing and warm body pressed against her back provided a sense of coziness she hadn’t known she craved. It had been a long time since she’d woken up with someone in her bed, but instead of freaking out or worrying about it, Ginny snuggled back into Gavin a little more. His arm was loosely slung over her waist, hand resting on the bed, while she could feel his breath against the back of her neck.

Her plans to stay in his arms, wake him up with her mouth and hands and really enjoy their weekend together was cut short when her phone buzzed. Not just once, a couple of times. Even before looking at the device, she knew that it was her mother and Ginny was worried about what she would find when she looked at it.

Carefully sliding out of bed, she took a minute to admire Gavin’s half-naked form. The covers were twisted around his legs, hair in complete disarray and mouth was open as he shifted slightly and made himself comfortable again. Ginny was glad that she got to see what Gavin looked like in bed, especially since she’d never stuck around long enough to see it before.

Silencing her phone, Ginny shoved it into the pocket of her shorts as she went into the bathroom. A quick wash of her face, brush of her hair and a visit to the toilet later, she stepped out with a sweatshirt in hand. Gavin had turned to the other side, allowing Ginny to stare at his strong back.
