Gavin

*kissy face emoji* Keep sending me all the pictures, I want to see what you’re wearing tomorrow.

Ginny

Will do, Little Rhodes. Give your parents my love.

“I love you, too,” he whispered to himself, but sent her another kissy face emoji before going downstairs to join his parents for the evening.

Most of Sunday was also spent missing Ginny and even though he got a few texts over the course of the day, they barely had a chance to talk. He kept wishing he could call once to hear her voice or just have her sayLittle Rhodes, but he knew that she wouldn’t have the time. So he didn’t push it. He did enjoy the photographs she sent, looking absolutely stunning in the peach power suit she wore for the press conference. Gavin had no clue what Ginny was doing in New York, and he hadn’t thought to ask, he just knew she was there for work and that was it.

He hoped that one day when she went on work trips like this, he’d be able to accompany her, to stand by and watch her work, help her into and out of those gorgeous clothes she always wore. Gavin was sure that most of her wardrobe was filled with brand names, but he knew nothing about fashion, so it didn’t matter.

What he did know was that one whole week of constant Ginny attention wasn’t enough and he wanted more.

“Are you and Ginny okay, honey?”

Gavin frowned at his mother’s question, swallowing the food in his mouth. “Yeah, why?”

His mother shrugged, moving food around on her plate. “Wondering if something else happened that stopped her from being here today.”

“Jesus, mom. She’s in New York on work.”

“I was just making sure! The two of you have had atensetime together.”

Gavin shook his head, cutting into the last bit of his steak. Just like he thought, when he told his dad Ginny was sad about missing out on burgers, he switched to making them steak for lunch. “We’re past that and we’re fine now.”

“Good. I like seeing you happy.Shealways made you smile a certain way and it’s good to see that back on your face.”

He blushed, smiling as he finished his lunch. “She makes me happy and it’s been…it’s just really great. I know it’s still new, but I’m really happy.”

“I feel like I should get some credit for making this happen,” Spencer said from beside him and Gavin rolled his eyes. “What? I’m the one who convinced her to move to Wildes.”

“Convinced her to move here foryou.”

Before his brother could respond, their father cleared his throat, making Gavin smile. “Whatever the reason, whoever brought Ginny here, the most important thing is that sheishere.”

Spencer nudged him and Gavin chuckled, but his father was right. None of the other shit mattered, because Ginny was back in his life, back around his parents. She was right where she was meant to be. After lunch, the boys cleared the table and washed the dishes, leaving their parents to relax on the couch with Cedar and Copper. When they were done, the brothers joined their parents as they watched mindless television, until one by one they nodded off on the couch.

And Gavin had the best dream about Ginny.

Until he was shaken awake aggressively.

“What the fuck, Spence?”

“Dude, you have to see this,” his brother said, ignoring Gavin’s irritation. “These assholes are saying all kinds of shit about Gin.”

“What?” Gavin blinked the sleep out of his eyes and sat up straight, surprised that he was the only one left on the couch after everyone seemed to have passed out right there. He took the phone from his brother and rubbed his eyes with his free hand as the screen came into focus. From what he could tell, he was looking at the comments section of an Instagram post—only because Bronte insisted he know how Instagram worked for the shelter—and the stuff people were saying was…awful.
