“Yes,” she said laughing. “But I am tired.”

“And it will be veggie because you don’t need pepperoni. Too much grease,” he said.

Gazing up at him, she shook her head. “I’m certain the next few days are going to be interesting.”

He grinned. “I plan on taking very good care of you.”

The two men chuckled. “Sorry, Amelia. If you need something besides vegetables, send us a text and we’ll bring you a big juicy hamburger.”

“Oh,” she said with a sigh. “With french fries?”

“Yes,” Stan said.

Ryan shook his head. “You guys know better. A pregnant woman with high blood pressure needs to watch her salt.”

“And she needs to eat,” Amelia said. Just then her stomach cramped again and she gasped.

Ryan suddenly felt guilty. He’d wasted too much time. She should already be at his apartment with her feet up.

“Time to go, princess. You’re still having Braxton Hicks.”

When her body finally relaxed, the small group was on the elevator to the parking garage.

“If you need us, call,” Stan said when the doors opened.

“You’ll be drunk,” he said. “Nope. You guys have a safe night. Have one for me.”

He rolled her out of the elevator and they stopped in front of his jeep.

“How in the hell am I supposed to climb into that?” she asked.

He laughed. “I’ve got you.”

With his arms around her, he lifted her in and set her on the seat.

“Let’s go home,” he said. “Time for you to put your feet up and rest.”

CHAPTER8

Amelia felt nervous. While she was trying to remain calm, she hadn’t been with Ryan for nine months. What if it was just that one night they were attracted to each other? What if they suddenly realized they were all wrong for one another and hated each other?

And yet, she was still very much drawn to him. But how would he feel about a nine-month pregnant woman?

After all, look at her; she was as large as a barn. He’d seen her big, fat pregnant body including the stretch marks she was doing her best to avoid and the way her breasts were large and full that would soon be filled with milk.

They pulled up in front of his apartment, the windshield wipers on his jeep going full blast to sweep the snowflakes off. The building looked really nice from the outside.

“My suitcase,” she said, suddenly remembering what she needed from inside it. “It’s in my car, and if it snows much more, we may not be able to get to my car.”

“Let me get you inside and prop your feet up, then I’ll go get it,” he said. “But you need to be off your feet. You’re not going with me.”

She glanced outside. “It’s getting dangerous, Ryan.”

“My jeep gets me to work every day. I’m not worried,” he said. “You sit right there and let me get the front door unlocked. Then I’ll come and carry you in.”

“I’m too heavy,” she said.

“Would you let me take care of you?” he replied, gazing at her like she was pushing him.
