“Son,” she said walking toward them.

“Mom, I’d like you to meet Amelia. She’s the girl I met on the cruise.”

His mother gazed at the two of them.

“Nice to meet you,” she said and he could see she was trying to recover from the shock.

“And yes, that’s my baby she’s carrying,” he said grinning. He was so overjoyed and knew his family would love and accept Amelia and their baby.

His mother’s eyes widened and then she wrapped her arms around Amelia. “Thank God. I’m so happy. Finally, he found you.”

“Yes,” Amelia said smiling at him. “We both searched for one another.”

“Brent,” she cried. “Boys, get in here and meet Amelia.”

Soon his father and brothers came into the room.

“This is Amelia,” his mother said. “And she’s going to have Ryan’s baby.”

Each one of them came up and hugged Amelia, his brothers patting him on the back and telling him congratulations. He’d known his family would accept her.

His father’s eyes filled with tears. “A grandchild. What a blessing.”

Amelia glanced at him and smiled.

His father took her by the arm and led her into the family living room. “Sit down. When is that baby due to arrive? We’re just so thrilled.”

“In two weeks,” she said smiling.

His mother gave him a hug. “Now, I understand,” she whispered to him. “I see why you didn’t want us to say anything about Sandy and Charlotte. Have you told her?”

“No, I’m going to tonight,” he said. “Mom, I didn’t think I could find love again, but I love her so much. And I can’t wait for her to have this baby.”

“Oh, son, I’m so happy for you. I know how hard it’s been.”

“Yes, and it’s just so easy between us. We get along so great. I knew the moment I met her there was something special.”

His mother squeezed him to her chest. “What a wonderful Christmas present. Come on, let’s go rescue her from your father and brothers. I want to get to know this woman more. I have a feeling she’s going to be our daughter-in-law soon.”

“I hope so. I truly do, Mom. I love her and I never thought I’d find love again.”

Together they walked into the family living room where Amelia was telling them how they found each other again.

It was a story he hoped they could someday tell their children.

CHAPTER16

When they got home late that evening, Amelia was exhausted. Her feet were swollen and the baby had been playing soccer in her belly since late this afternoon. She was ready for her to quit kicking her ribs and go to sleep.

But her stubborn little accident seemed wide awake, and if she didn’t know better, she would think there was an entire team in there playing with her.

“By the way,” she said when they walked into the apartment and Ryan helped her remove her coat, scarf, and hat. “I’m a twin. And while the doctor has heard only one heartbeat, that doesn’t mean I’m not expecting two.”

He laughed. “That would be wonderful.”

She turned and frowned at him. “Easy for you to say. How would we feed them?”

“The same way your mother and father took care of you,” he said. “We’d work it out.”
