Why was she constantly questioning herself? Not remembering doing something when she had obviously done it. If not her, then someone was breaking into her house way too much.

She stalked to the sliding door, double-checking it was locked. It didn’t budge. How would they have gotten in? The front door had been locked as had the sliding door. Though the window was open now, she had closed and locked it. Right? She honestly didn’t remember opening it.

Maybe she was losing her mind and she had turned off the thermostat and opened her window. A quick run-through of her house showed nothing else out of place.

She walked back over to Griffin’s, stepping inside without knocking. He knew she was coming over so why bother?

He set the popcorn bowl on the coffee table, looking at her, his brows puckering as he stared at her shirt.

“I thought you went to change.”

She followed his gaze, realizing in her panic she never switched shirts.

“Eve?” He rounded the table with quick strides, cupping her cheek gently yet firmly. “What’s wrong?”

She lifted her eyes to his, the fear slithering up and down her spine.

“I think I’m losing my mind.”

Griffin staredat the open window.

“I remember opening the curtains and not closing them, but I don’t remember opening the window.”

He nodded. “Yeah, I don’t think you closed the curtains.”

His cheeks flamed as the memory assaulted him. The way she removed her shirt, tossing it on the ground. Her pert breasts on display, his hands aching to touch and caress until she uttered the low moans she enjoyed when he kissed her.

His eyes met hers. The sweet grin on her face said she knew that he’d seen her this morning.

“You were watching this morning?”

He matched her grin. “You never open your curtains. I thought it was an invitation to watch.”

This time her cheeks burned a bright red, her eyes casting to the floor. “Did you like what you saw?”

“Eve, there isn’t anything I don’t like about you.”

Her eyes popped up to his. They stared at each other for a moment. Even her lies weren’t enough to turn him away, though it got harder each day to hold his patience in. When would she trust him? How much more did he need to display that he’d do everything in his power to keep her safe?

He tossed a hand toward the window. “If you think someone was in here, that you didn’t open the window, I can dust for prints.”

Her eyes widened. “Umm…”

“If someone broke in, I want them to pay for their crimes. Don’t you?”

She shivered, wrapping her arms around her body. The instinctive move she always did when she was shielding herself from harm. He’d never hurt her. Why couldn’t she understand that?

“It will be quick and I’ll clean up after. I would need a set of your prints to rule out any prints that might be yours.”

At that statement, she took a step back as if ready to run.

“No, that’s okay. I opened it and forgot.” She snapped her fingers. “Yep, I’m pretty sure I did.”

“Is there something you’re afraid I’ll find if I run your prints?” He held up his hand before she could speak. “If you can’t answer without lying don’t say anything at all.”

She swallowed and didn’t respond, which was answer enough. Yes, she was afraid he’d see something he wouldn’t like. Damn it! He needed her to spill her secrets before he went crazy.

“Okay, if you think you opened it, we’ll leave it at that. How about that movie?”
