Juliet had left shortlyafter the phone call. A true emergency from Marcy for once. A pipe burst in the kitchen. Bryce grilled and enjoyed a few card games with them and then left. Eve helped Griffin clean up, even loading the dishwasher. As he came in from outside watching her at his counter putting a plate in the device, he wondered how he’d get her to stay—forever.

He knew deep in his gut she wasthe one. He suspected that feeling had been there from the first moment he met her. She’d not only smacked into his chest but shoved in the idea that was now lingering in his mind every moment of each day.

But now that the truth of her identity was out, he had to tread even more carefully. He was up against a lot. Not just a psychotic brother who wanted to kill her.

She was rich.

She was more than a small-town girl.

She was one of those women who would always be unattainable.

Yet, she was his Eve. Sweet, shy smiles. Glowering when the next Christmas tune always came on in the cafe. He figured she didn’t know she reacted that way. He’d have to ask her why she didn’t like Christmas. And hating Christmas, why she moved to a town that threw it in your face every day of the year?

She was close to breaking. The one he feared the most. One wrong move and he’d lose her. Forever. The wrong kind of forever he was looking for.

He moved closer, and when she turned around from the dishwasher, she jumped as he knew she would, startled by his presence. It gave him the opportunity to wrap his arm around her waist and catch her.

He would always catch her.

“Do you know how much I love seeing you put things away or grab something that requires you to bend?”

She grinned, her eyes brimming with laughter. “No, how much?”

“Way too much.” Then he dipped his head and kissed her.

His lips melded with hers as if they were one. Her low moan filled the air and made the ache in his chest disappear. Most times, he worried he’d do the wrong thing. Little evidence like that told him he’d done the right thing.

Her hands that were stuck between them slithered up his chest, eliciting a delightful shiver from him. Damn, he needed her in every way.

“Stay with me.”

“Sure, you want to watch a movie or something?”

His lips found her chin this time, pressing light kisses until he hit her neck. He ran his tongue to her ear, taking a nibble.

“No, I mean stay with me. Tonight. All night long.”

Instead of her hands running another path down his chest, they pushed on him. He let go of her, never wanting her to feel like he was trapping her.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“I have two reasons why I think it’s a good idea.”

She crossed her arms, nodding. “Okay, let’s hear them.”

He held up a finger. “I don’t care where we stay, your house or mine, but I don’t want to leave you alone. Not if you think he could be in town or on his way.”

A shiver rippled across her body, her eyes widening with the fear he hated witnessing.

“While I will sleep on the couch, I’d much prefer it in a bed. Next to you. Reason number one. To make sure you’re safe and comfortable. And fear nothing.”

Her arms dropped to her sides. “And reason number two?”

He was now doubting he should’ve voiced there were two reasons. He should’ve kept the second one to himself.

But he had said no more secrets between them, and that included him.

“Because I want to show you how much you mean to me. I want to kiss every spot on your body and remove the memories that have no place there. I want to pleasure you until you’re so sated with bliss that you never want to walk away from me.”
