She smiled, brushing his cheek in a gentle caress. “Is it too presumptuous to invite myself to move in here? I’m at your place more than mine anyway.”

“You’re welcome to stay forever. Never move out.” He pressed his lips hard against hers. “Ever. Marry me, Eve? Make a home with me. A family, if that’s what you want.”

“I’ve never thought about kids. Maybe.”

His lips turned up into a wide grin. “And the marriage part?” Oh shit. He was rushing it. “Or moving in is a good place to start. Forget I—”

“Yes.” She kissed him this time, hungrily and with the passion he’d missed the past few weeks. “I will not forget you asked, so don’t even think about saying it. Yes, to it all. The entire time I was away, all I wanted was to come home. This is my home. You’remy home, Griffin.”

To think he never thought he’d hear that from her lips. Always worried she’d leave. Always on edge that it would all come crumbling down.

They celebrated with another deep kiss that led to clothes disappearing and their bodies joining as close as two people could get. Afterward, she fell into a deep sleep, something he knew she severely needed. She’d been through a huge ordeal. Rest would help her. Him as well. He hadn’t been sleeping great since she left. For the first time in a long time, he slept like a rock.

He woke up first, glancing at his phone, noting it was already noon. He’d sent a text to his secretary before falling asleep he wouldn’t be in the office today and if anyone needed him, they’d have to wait. He knew she’d relay the message to everyone who asked, which would be quite a few people. It wasn’t very often he called out of work and with no explanation for why.

Eve looked peaceful, the color in her cheeks brighter than they were when he opened the door. He’d let her sleep longer. Sliding out of bed was easy as she barely moved, zonked out from everything. A quick shower awakened him even more, and the first cup of coffee helped the rest of the tiredness to evaporate. Though lunchtime, he opted to make breakfast.

Maybe it was the smell of bacon that woke her up or the fact he left the bed, but two warm hands wrapped around his stomach and pressed tightly.

Her lips hit his neck and he wanted more. He twisted around so he could see her, kissing her lightly on the mouth.

“Good morning.”

She smiled, her eyes filled with happiness. So much better than the pain he had witnessed last night.

“Morning. I’m starving, and that smells divine.”

“It’s almost done.”

“Do I have time for a shower?”

He nodded. “If it’s quick. Another ten minutes for the bacon.”

“I don’t need a long one.”

Then she was gone, and he wanted to follow her. Perhaps part of him still worried he’d lose her. She’d slip away if he didn’t keep his eye on her. But he wouldn’t become that person. That man who had no control of his emotions.

He stayed in the kitchen preparing the rest of the meal and timed it perfectly, pouring her a cup of coffee as she walked in looking more refreshed than before.

“I didn’t pack any clothes. I hopped in the plane and left.”

He eyed her up and down, loving how she looked in his shirt and no pants on.

“You did leave some clothes in my closet. Though I like the outfit you picked out.”

She lifted his shirt near her chest, inhaling. “I missed you. I need to feel as close as I can to you right now.”

He wrapped her in his arms. “You can wear my clothes anytime you want.” She shivered, bringing back the worry. “What’s wrong? If we’re moving too fast—”

“Stop. We had that conversation. It’s not fast. I’m happy.”

“I can tell something is wrong.”

Her eyes dropped as she bit her bottom lip. “Is Juliet mad I left without saying good-bye? I didn’t even give her notice at the cafe. That was very rude of me.”

“Hey,” Griffin whispered, lifting her gaze back up to his. “She is not mad at you. She’s been as worried as me. If anyone understands what you went through, it’s her. She’ll be excited to hear you’re back. So no more worrying about that.”

“Okay. I trust you.”
