My whole body fluttered with excitement. He was saying all the right things. Maybe this was all a game and he was only speaking like this to try and charm me, but I had to admit it was working. I was utterly seduced by him. I caught Carrie’s eyes, and could see how delighted she was for me. She was probably more thrilled that I was having a good time, than she was for herself. I couldn’twaitto gossip about this at work when we got the chance.

“So, how long will you be in Rockport for?” Spike asked curiously. “A few weeks, right? Are you going to be busy the entire time you’re filming?”

“I…I don’t know.” Probably, but I didn’t want to cut myself off completely. I had no idea where this line of questioning was going, but I was intrigued. “I might have time…”

“Well, if you do, I would love to take you around Rockport so you can get a glimpse of it for yourself. It seems a shame for you to spend weeks here and not get to explore it.”

A warmth flooded my chest. That sounded like date talk to me. Ilovedthe idea of going on a date with this man. Especially if I kept the thought that none of this would be long-term in the forefront of my mind at all times, then there would be absolutely no reason to get myself all tied up in knots over him. I could just enjoy the moment for what it was.

I’d pretty much decided that the end of filmingRevivewas going to be a crossroads for me, during which time I would have to make some serious life decisions for myself. So if I could enjoy myself while the chance was right there in front of me, then why not?

“Well, I will have to take your phone number then,” I replied, all flirty and thrilled. This truly was going to help me get backout there, wasn’t it? If I got the chance, that was. I didn’t quite know how busy Sarah would keep me on the movie set. Her needs changed from project to project, depending on how into it she was. “Then we can make some plans.”

Spike took my cell phone from me and typed in his digits, smirking at me the entire time with that delightful twinkle in his eyes. “Sounds good to me. I think me and you can have a really good time.”

SPIKE

Ineeded to get Arya alone. That much was clear. We were having a good time with everyone surrounding us, and I enjoyed chatting with her, but we couldn’t take this flirting up to another level while we were here. We needed to spend some time by ourselves. So far I’d seen how witty she was, and charming too. I really liked her strong sense of self. The more she talked and opened up, the more of her there was to admire.

Which was why I didn’t hesitate to grab the first opportunity to be alone with her.

“Oh, a table just opened up over there. Should we go and sit down?”

“Erm, I don’t think that’s big enough for all of us.”

We turned to see her friend who was telling jokes and making the guys from soccer laugh their heads off. They didn’t need us anymore, and Arya could see that.

“Oh, fair enough.” She giggled. “Let’s take a seat.”

I let her walk in front of me and admired the curve of her ass as she moved. There was a sashay with every step, which had her white blonde hair spilling down her back, and swaying with her. She was lovely to look at from every angle, and the more I saw her piercing blue eyes twinkling as she talked, the more she drew me in like a magnet.

I wasn’t a man to easily become infatuated with anyone. But Arya had definitely changed that. I couldn’t get enough of her. She excited me in a way that I hadn’t been thrilled about in a very long time. That made her that much more intoxicating.

“Ooh, it’s nice in this corner,” Arya murmured as she slipped into the seat near the heaters. “It’s very warm, isn’t it? Good choice. I like this table over here.”

I grinned. I didn’t choose this location because of how warm it would be. I liked it because it was in the corner and we could get close…if she wanted to. However, there was no doubt that Arya was interested. She was enjoying the flirting just as much as me. What a shame that she was only going to be in town for a short while. If Arya lived in Rockport, or had just moved here, then I really would be over the moon.

This was the sort of fun that my life was searching for. It wasn’t like I had a dull existence. Running a bodyguard company with my best friends, and ex-military buddies; Brock, Liam, and Mickey, certainly kept me busy. It just wasn’t always fulfilling.

I never admitted it to anyone, I wasn’t even sure that I’d confessed it to myself until this very moment, but I had a funny feeling that I was seeking someone like Arya to make me feel complete. I wanted someone I got along with just like this to spend my evenings with…

Urgh, that sounded soppy. No wonder it was the sort of thing that I would never share with anyone else. Also, it was because I didn’t want anyone to blame my past for that sense of loneliness. Because the pack I once ran with, the one I ran away from, weren’t all they were cracked up to be. There was a lot of toxicity there, which I had to run away from.

Wolves and other shifters who had never experienced the equivalent of office politics in their pack, with trust issues, bitching, and a constant sense of being unsafe, could never understand why I abandoned that pack, and why I would never go back. They wouldn’t cure my loneliness. They would only make it worse.

If it wasn’t for Liam, Brock, and Mickey being put into the same team while we were in the Navy Seals, then I would have likely continued to be a loner. They were the family I had chosen for myself, and nothing would ever take them away.

But I had to admit that sitting here in front of Arya had me yearning for something else.

“So, how does your boyfriend feel about you spending so much time in another town?” I asked cheekily, just because I wanted to see how she would respond. Although I had to admit, as soon as I said those words, I was worried that I would get the sort of answer that I really didn’t want. I couldn’t find out that she had a boyfriend now––that would absolutely crush my spirit. So I waited with bated breath for her to respond.

“I don’t have a boyfriend.” She giggled. “And what about your girlfriend? I’m sure she won’t be too happy to know you’re sitting here with me, drinking and having fun.”

“Oh no, she would beveryjealous,” I teased. “Thank goodness she doesn’t exist.”

Arya cocked her head curiously to one side. “I don’t believe that…youdon’t have a girlfriend? A man like you…” She rested her hand on my arm and smiled. The sensation of her touching me was absolutely electrifying. “It makes no sense.”
