“What makes you say that?” Shit, our lips were so close now they might as well be touching. When the hell did that happen? Not that I was complaining about it. Being this close to her was phenomenal. Breathing her in was utterly intoxicating. It intensified the magnetic pull between us. I wasn’t sure I would be able to stay away from Arya much longer.

“Because you’re obviously gorgeous,” Arya giggled, pulling back. She was just teasing me, but from how her cheeks reddened, she was winding herself up more than me. I liked that. I enjoyed watching her get all tied up in knots over me.

“I guess I just haven’t found the right one,” I replied with a shrug. “Maybe Rockport is a little too small for me. I don’t know. Not that I can imagine living anywhere else.”

I had thought about it over the years, but nothing had ever made me want to move away. After experiencing the transient nature of being in the military, I was now enjoying the quiet and stability of staying in one place all the time. Rockport did have a lot of amazing qualities.

“Well, I’m sure the right one will come along for you one day soon.”

Holy shit, was her hand on my leg now? My entire body was on fire. I was doused in flames and was barely able to contain myself. It was almost like there was no one else in the room; only me and Arya. I didn’t care about anyone else.

“But what if the right one is only in Rockport for a few weeks?”

That was a risky little joke, but Arya responded just as I knew she would. She let out a little laugh of delight, clapping her hands together joyfully. “Oh yeah, that would be a bit of a dilemma for me. I don’t know what I would do if I were in your position. Probably enjoy the moment as much as I could while that person is right here, under my nose.”

I cupped her cheeks in my hands, doing just that, and pulled her towards me for a kiss. But just a little one. A sweet, chaste kiss that set my heart on fire. My pulse started pounding at the speed of light. I couldn’t get enough. But I had to get enough. I tugged back a little to leave her wanting more. The only problem was that it left me wantingsomuch more.

“Mmm, you are delicious,” I murmured with my eyes still hooded with desire. “Fruity.”

“That would be the strawberry lip balm,” she teased. “But you know, you don’t taste too bad yourself. I might have to get another taste of you before the end of the night.”

That made my heart flutter. God damn it, I wanted to tug her onto my lap. I needed to feel her straddle me, to hold her hard against me, to be deep inside of her…

Oh God, I needed to get a hold of myself before I did something crazy.

We continued chatting, flirting heavily, and making one another laugh as the bar began to empty. My friends left and the movie people did too. It wasn’t long until it was just me and Arya left in the bar as it drew closer to closing time. The only problem was I wasn’t anywhere near done with Arya. I really was having the best time with her, and I was still pretty sure that there was still a lot more to learn about her.

“I can’t believe how much we have in common.” She chuckled as we chatted about the music we’d adored growing up. Books too. I really hadn’t met anyone that I had so much to say to, like I did Arya. I could say whatever I wanted, and she not only liked it but agreed with me as well. Although when she didn’t agree, the debates we ended up having were more like banter. It was so much fun. “It’s weird, don’t you think? It kinda feels like we should have met a long time ago or like we’ve always been in one another’s lives.”

I couldn’t stop myself from smiling. “Yeah, I feel the exact same way. I don’t think I have ever connected with anyone as much as this.”

The atmosphere seemed to thicken around us. I wasn’t sure what this brand-new heat was, but I loved it. I couldn’t get enough of the sizzle burning between us. I edged a little closer to her, trying to embrace as much of this blissful feeling as possible.

“So, Arya, are you going to come back to my place after this?” I asked suggestively because I really wanted to spend the night making her feel phenomenal. If her lips tasted that good, then I couldn’t wait to get my hands all over her body, and taste the rest of her.

“Back to yours?” Her eyebrows popped up into her hairline. “Nowthatsounds like a whole lot of fun. I would like that…but I don’t know if I should.” She pouted out her bottom lip. “Because I do have to work early in the morning. You don’t know what it’s like on a movie set, especially when you’re the personal assistant to one of the main actors on the very first day. I have to be on form. A hangover will absolutely kill me. I need as much sleep as I can get. Sorry to be such a disappointment to you.”

Aww, that was a shame. I could tell that she was being truthful with me. Much as she wanted to explore this chemistry with me, she had to put her career first. I always respected a decent work ethic in people, so that wasn’t going to change right here and now.

Plus, it wasn’t like Arya was only in town for one night. We had at least a few weeks, and if things didn’t progress tonight, then we had more excuses to see one another in the near future.

“You aren’t a disappointment,” I reassured her as I rested my forehead on hers. “Not at all. I completely understand. You have to think of work.”

She darted her eyes to look up at me with a soft smile playing on her lips. Was she trying to kill me? It was damn near impossible to keep away from her. But I did want to respect her wishes even if the animalistic wolf inside of me wanted to break free and to just devour her already because she was just too tempting for words.

Ding, ding!“Last orders!”

Well, that sucked. The call for last orders meant that our night was almost over, whether we wanted it to be or not. I sighed heavily, not liking the way that my heart sank. My God, this wasn’t even a date, and I was glued to her. I would have done anything if it meant that I could stay here in this moment with her.

It was hard not to get down because it wasn’t one of those things that could last forever.

“Do you want one more drink?” I asked Arya as I shook my empty glass in her direction. “Or do you need to get back now because of work?”

She paused for a moment, thinking this through hard. “I think I can have one more.”

I backed away, keeping my eyes on Arya the whole time. Her smile made me tingle all over my entire body. A fizzle of delight raced through my body as our eyes remained locked in on one another. This was brand new, and I couldn’t get enough.

“Oof!” We both burst out laughing as I crashed into the bar behind me. I was so fixated on Arya that I didn’t even notice how far I’d walked across the room. But instead of feeling like an idiot, it just added to the fun that me and Arya were already having.
