“Yeah, you know, I’ve been meaning to ask you… howdoyou suck Misha’s dick for so long? My jaw fucking kills me by the time we’re done.” To sell my complaint, I grimaced and rubbed beneath my ear by the hinge of my jaw. “Is it normal for him to shoot his load, like, three times in a row like that? I’m worried he’s going to get dehydrated. You know what? We should start stocking Gatorade or something. He could probably use it.”

“Fuck you, Marek. I can’t wait for the day you find out you’re just another hole for him to fuck. Let’s see how cocky you are then.” If looks could kill, I would have been dead on the spot before he turned and strode away.

“Blow me,” I muttered, sliding behind the bar again. If he wasn’t such a fucking prick, I might have felt sorry for him. But he was and I didn’t. Although I couldn’t help but wonder what happened between him and Misha—and when. “Just another hole to fuck” was a bit too specific for him to be speaking in hypotheticals and the bitterness with which he said it felt fresh.

None of my business, I reminded myself. None whatsoever.

“I’ll catch you tomorrow,”I said to Nolan a little while later, giving him a wave on my way toward the back.

“See ya,” he called out.

Most of the staff had already gone home, leaving only a few people to close up. Needless to say, I was surprised to see Sveta standing by the back door, twisting a lock of blonde hair around her finger.

“Hey,” I said, furrowing my brows at her as I juggled my helmet and shrugged into my peacoat. “I thought you left like a half hour ago?”

“I did,” she said. Her voice was so much quieter without the music, which meant it was also easier to detect the apprehension in it. “I was on my way to my car when I saw those guys on the sidewalk, so I came back. I’m going to wait here for a little bit.”

“They’re probably long gone by now. But just to be safe, I’ll walk you to your car. Come on.”

“No, it’s ok. You opened today. You must be tired. I’ll just wait a little longer.”

“You opened too. So, this isn’t really up for debate.” I opened the back door and gestured for her to go first.

She chewed her lower lip before stepping out, pulling her coat tighter around herself against the blast of cold air. I didn’t know if it really did anything, considering she was wearing a black dress so short it barely covered her ass.

“You didn’t bring a change of clothes?” I asked, looking at her bare legs.

“I was running late. Forgot the bag at home.”

“You should have said something. We could have sent someone to get it.”

“It’s fine. I like the cold,” she said, swiping blonde strands out of her face as the wind whipped them around. “Thanks for earlier, by the way. Covering for me.”

“Any time. I’ve been around enough drunken assholes to know how obnoxious they can be.”

“You don’t have to tell me,” she said with a little laugh that sounded bitter. The money at Delirium was good, no doubt, but people sucked no matter what job you worked at. Alcohol just made it worse.

“Did you park down here?” I asked as we emerged from the alley, walking toward the public lot on the corner.

“Yeah.”

“Me too.”

She smiled but it vanished a second later. “Shit.”

“What?” I followed her gaze. The four assholes were still there, vaping and horsing around as they pawed through bags of takeout, arguing about who was getting what. I wrapped an arm around her and steered her in the opposite direction, which also meant walking away from our vehicles. If we hurried around the corner, there was a greater likelihood of someone at Delirium letting us back in, as opposed to banging on the back door in the hopes they’d hear us. “Let’s just grab an Uber.”

“Ok.” She slid her arm around my waist, clinging to my jacket with one hand while pulling out her phone and ordering a car with the other.

A piercing wolf whistle split the night air, followed by literal howling and laughter.

“Baby! We thought you left!”

“Aw, come on girl! Come back!”

“Look at that ass! Mmm, mmm, mmm.”
