EDEN

One Month Later…

My experience in the jungle has taught me how fate tests the balance of life and to never become complacent.

It’s hard not to be when every morning I open my eyes, and I wish for nothing more than what I have in front of me.

With Rose and Samuel by my side, I flourish effortlessly. The three of us together is my ultimate happiness.

Eudaimonia.

After arriving home, I made Samuel a promise. A beach wedding. My only condition, we wait until he’shappy.

He has to find a new job that agrees with his health and become physically and spiritually happy.

Money or material things don’t buy happiness. It’s why he loved Ulara. And I have faith he can find the same inner peace without traveling to Peru to take ayahuasca.

Already, the nightmares have subsided.

He’s dreaming more about Kaikare and his friends. What they’re doing in their new home. I suggested he could be connecting with Kaikaire in his dreams.

Because anything is possible.

Samuel walks into the room after receiving a phone call.

“You’ll never guess who called.”

“Who?” I ask impatiently.

“Dr. Mundy. He wants me to be part of a project in the rainforest finding medicinal properties in the unique plants of the Daintree.”

I throw my arms around his neck and kiss him hard. “All you had to do was ask the universe. If it’s meant to be, then it will happen.”

“Like magic?” he mocks.

“No. Like fate.” I kiss him again.

“Ah.” He glances down at me and grins. “Like you coming into my life.”

“You’re right. No point fighting it. I’m destined to be with you forever.”

“Forever isn’t long enough,” he whispers against my lips. “I have no intention of fighting fate.”

“Your best decision yet, Dr. McMahon.” He leans and pulls me close to his body, the warmth radiating from him surrounds me like a calming blanket. He kisses me slow and meaningful, passionate yet gentle.

“Thank you for fighting for me,” he whispers against my lips.

I pull back and stare into those blue eyes filled with love and contentment, and hold his beautiful face in my hands. "Honey, I knew from that first moment we were destined to be together. Nothing and no one will take you away from me.”

He leans his forehead against mine and closes his eyes. “I’m ashamed to admit for a while, I thought I wasn’t going to make it. Contemplated leaving and—”

I smother his words in a kiss.

Words I don’t want to hear as I knew what Samuel was feeling.

He struggles to survive in society, and he didn’t want to ask me to leave my family and friends when inside he was slowly dying.
