“Sun Yi, what the hell?” I screech as I roll out of bed, landing on the other side. “I thought we had a moment!”

She glares at me, a cold, vengeful expression on her face. “As if I could ever share a moment with the harlot who seduced my husband and killed him.”

I cross my arms over my chest and roll my eyes. “You mispronounced ‘rape victim,’ ‘was abused by,’ and ‘freed him from his mortal coil.’ Easy mistakes to make, though. I don’t blame you. English is a hard language to learn,Mommy.”

While she stammers and sputters in shock, I look down at the bloody mess that is my thigh. “Oh, Jesus effin’ Christ, Sun Yi, finish what you start.” No way I’m gonna run around town with “WHORF” carved into my leg. It’s deep enough that even Doc’s best stitching couldn’t prevent scarring. I pull my switchblade out of its hiding spot between my breasts and finish the word for her. “There. Now I won’t die of embarrassment from your cruddy spelling.”

Her jaw hangs open, and just when I think I might be able to run past her and jump out the window to get away, a gun appears at the door.

The gun, which is a pretty one, all shiny and new, with a silencer to keep from disturbing the nice, upper-class neighborhood, stays aimed squarely at me as its owner walks through the doorway.

I’m not impressed.

“Samson, I presume?”

The Cobra grins, but I’m not taken in by the crisp suit, the slicked-back hair, or the chiseled jaw. Give me my rough-and-tumble Kendrick with the tattoos and muscles, my sweet, quiet Doc with the green eyes and shoulder-length dreads, my mischievous Keys with the lollies, and my shy, intellectual Neil with the glasses.Realmen impress me. Not this polished turd.

“Thank you, Mrs. Kincaid. Your phone call was most appreciated.”

Ah. So the maternal unit ratted me out. Classic, if a bit clichéd.

Sun Yi flips me off as she skirts around Ramsey to exit stage right. His dark eyes glisten with some unreadable emotion, and without breaking his gaze from me, he swings his arm around and pulls the trigger.

What’s left of Sun Yi’s brain matter drips slowly down the wall as her body collapses to the floor. I raise a brow and look at Ramsey with what I hope comes across as vague disinterest.

“Saved me the trouble of coming back for her later. Thanks, man.”

His groomed eyebrows furrow as his lips dip into a slight frown, and he brings the gun back to aim at me. I don’t think that’s the response he expected.

I sigh and cross my arms over my chest. “Look, she was a shit mom, God rest her fucked-up soul, or whatever. You did me a favor.” I gesture at my leg. “She tore my fucking fishnets, man. They were my favorite pair. Actually, since you blew up my home, they were just about my only pair.”

His confusion morphs into a boring rage, and I yawn. “I just woke up, dude. Give me a second before you shoot, okay? I gotta pee.” I stalk over to him and push past him into the hallway. “You may not realize this, but girl bladders need to be emptied ay-sap when they wake up. It’s a whole thing.” I slam the bathroom door and lock it, taking my time with my piss while waiting for him to pound on the door or some other melodramatic thing. Melodrama seems to fit him.

To my surprise, he’s still standing there when I get done. He’s not dumb—the gun stays trained on my chest as I come out—but I’ll give him props for having manners.

“There. Now, are you going to kill me right away, or do I get a last phone call?”

He smirks and gestures at me with his free hand. “You have a phone hidden in there?”

I reach into the top of my thigh-high boot and pull out a burner. “Duh! Of course, I do. What self-respecting woman would be caught without one?”

Ramsey watches with a funny little tic in his jaw while I dial up Kendrick. No answer, but maybe his phone got busted in the blast. Before I can dial Doc or Keys, the Cobra shoots the phone out of my hand. I don’t give him the satisfaction of flinching, but I do give him my best dirty glare. “Asshole.”

“You said ‘last phone call.’ Singular. You made one call. Don’t blame me if you wasted it.”

Fucking jerks and their semantics. “Fine. What next? You shoot me? I get the feeling that would end it too quickly for your taste.”

He snaps his fingers, and Vipers ooze out of the woodwork.

Okay, so they don’t ooze so much as come streaming out of the other bedrooms in the house. Good ol’ Sun Yi must have just given the Cobra the fucking keys or something. I wonder how long they were waiting. Like, what were they doing while Sun Yi was carving my leg or I was taking a piss? “Yo, Cobra! Sick move, bro. Kudos on the dramatics. You have them trained well. I didn’t even hear them jerking off in there.”

“Zip ties. Wrists and ankles. I don’t want her slipping free from cuffs or ropes.”

I let the Vipers tie me up and grab what their grubby little hands could reach. I also make a mental note of which Vipers grabbed what, so I can take appropriate action when I’m loose again. The one with the ugly mole on his chin grabbed my crotch, for instance, so I know his dick’s getting sliced off first. The one with the snake tattoo on his cheekmightget off with just a broken hand since all he touched was my ass.

One thing’s for sure: none of them are getting off scot-free. Nope.

I have to bide my time, though. If Ramsey found mehere, then my guys are all at risk. I have to stay calm until I know if they’re safe or not. One step at a time.
