“He’s right, Bunny.” Keys kisses my wet cheek. “Hell, I didn’t even remember you had money, but one thing I never forgot, no matter how scrambled my brain was: I love you.”

“If Doc was here with us, I think he’d agree. We all love you, Bunny.”

Jesus, even Neil! My heart is so Goddamn full right now.

Our sweet, heartfelt Hallmark moment is ruined when I hear the stairwell door slam open, the furniture we stacked slamming to the floor. Dozens of footsteps thunder in, and before we know it, we’re surrounded.

Keys backs slowly away from the cuddle pile, and I don’t really blame him. I mean, anyone within ten feet of me automatically has a target on their back where the Cobra is concerned.

I’d wanna book it, too.

Speaking of the Devil, Samson Ramsey himself emerges from behind a wall of Vipers, holding Candy to his chest with a gun pointed at her head.

Wait—What? He’s taking his own girlfriend hostage? I don’t get it.

“Hello, Bunny. I wondered when you would show up.” He hauls Candy further into the room, never taking his eyes off me and mine. “You’ve caused me quite a bit of trouble, miss. From the moment that boy Justin told me about your boyfriend’s computer, I knew you’d be a problem.”

I’m even more confused now. Justin told Ramsey about us before we met Neil. I say as much, and Ramsey frowns.

“What do you mean? He was dating Thomas.”

I scoff and cross my arms over my chest. “Online dating. They hadn’t met each other yet. Jesus, are you telling me that Samson Ramsey, the almighty Cobra, got played by a nerd?”

He turns bright red, and I can’t help but laugh.

“Oh, fuck, you did get played! This is rich.” I wave in the direction of Neil’s laptop, which sits in a back corner of the room. “He planted that shit. Neil didn’t even know he had it. We didn’t have any intel on you. If you’d just left well enough alone, we might never have crossed paths.”

Ramsey sputters and fumes. The dude really didn’t realize.

I decide to play dirty and continue. “Yeah, man. He was jealous because Keys playedhimby faking at being a girl online. Then he assumed I was Keys when he saw me in the game. He drew all the wrong conclusions and figured the best way to take out the Summer City Hare would be to sic the Cobra on her.” I gesture at the bodies littering the penthouse. “All this could have been avoided if you weren’t an idiot!”

Candy whimpers, and Ramsey shakes her like a doll. “Be quiet!”

“You know, that’s really shitty of you, Ramsey.” I cock my head at him. “Do you not love her?”

It’s Ramsey’s turn to scoff. “Love? I don’t have time for love. I’ve got an empire to run.”

He proves his point by shooting Candy. Several of his men gasp in shock, but I’m not too surprised. This asshole’s even colder than I am.

I cluck my tongue at him. “Tsk, tsk. Now you don’t have a hostage.” I raise my gun, aiming at the dead center of his chest. “What are you gonna do now, Ramsey? You may have us outnumbered, but I can take you out before your dudes lay a finger on me. I’ll still win.”

“Is it winning if you’re dead, Bunny?” Ramsey grins. “I think you’ll find that my men are loyal. They’d jump in front of your bullet before they let me die.”

At that moment, several phones chime simultaneously. Ramsey’s Vipers share confused glances, and some of them standing in the back check their devices. The ones who do look from Ramsey to me and back again, then turn on their comrades. Weird.

“Hey, Samson!” Keys sits back from the computer. I hadn’t even noticed he was working over there. “How loyal do you think your guys are if you can’t pay them?”

“What?” Ramsey turns and sees that more and more of his men are checking their phones. Every single Viper who checks his phone either changes his aim to point at Ramsey, or they back off and start to leave. I’m just as perplexed as Ramsey is, but I play into it, hoping Keys’ plan is a good one.

“Uh oh, Ramsey,” I say with a smile, lowering my gun now that a good dozen others are trained on my enemy. “Looks like loyalty isn’t free.”

The dude actually growls. Like, legit wild-animal growls. “I can pay all of you and more. Ignore them.”

Keys stands up and walks over to the rest of us. “Actually, Samson, you can’t.” He holds up a phone and wiggles it. “Tell me, Samson, did you even think before leaving me alone with your computer? Like, seriously … I thought you were a smart man.”

Keeping his gun trained on me, Ramsey pulls out a phone with his other hand and taps at the screen. After a few tense seconds, he screams and throws the phone on the ground. As if he’s forgotten that several guns are trained on him, he runs his hand through his hair and starts pacing back and forth.

“Fuck!”
