“I know what goes on in your club.” Mitch pushed herself up, both straps of her camisole falling down her arms. She exposed the white of her collared throat as she looked up at Candace. “I know how it is you make most of your money. I may not know the details, but what if I told you… I could help?”

“You?” Candace put her hands on her hips. “What could you do for me? Besides be available 24/7 for whatever I’m in the mood for.”

Mitch’s chaotic laughter was almost genuine. “I’d do that and then some, Ms. Lister.”

“Answer my question, Michelle. Why should I trust you with any aspect of my business? Even if I took you as my permanent lover, there are some things you probably shouldn’t know.”

“Because I know what it takes to do that job. You’re pawning these inexperienced girls off on people who will use them up the first night they have them. Me? I’ve been around that block a few times. I’m sure you’re the best trainer around, but you only provide one-half of that experience. I could show them the true beauty of free will transferred into carnal currency.”

“I’m sure you could. God knows the exhibitionist freak inside of you probably salivates at the thought.”

Mitch slipped her heels off her feet. Eventually, she would be naked on this desk, but not until she knew it would lock herself into Candace’s world. “What will it take for me to prove it to you, Ms. Lister?” Her short bangs fell before her eyes as Mitch faced the frustration of the situation.I’m so close. Tell me your secrets, Lister. Right in front of my devices.“I’ll do anything for you. Right here, right now, if that’s what you want.”

She meant it, too.For Vanessa.Perhaps for the most fucked up part of herself, as well.

Yet Mitch couldn’t think about Vanessa right now. That was for later when she begged God for forgiveness.

“Your sexual self means nothing to me if it’s trust I want between us. You think I can’t keep holding myself back from you?”

“I know you want me. Every time you’re fucking someone else, you’re thinking of me.”

“How bold of you to assume.”

“What about Thalia, huh? I know she was about to move in with you before she left town andyou. Were you thinking about me when you kissed her?”

A flash of horror washed across Candace’s face. It was the closest Mitch had come to rattling the woman before her, and she endangered herself.

“You were thinking about that night right before Christmas when you kissed me in your club. I felt you unravel for me, and that’s when I knew I had to make myself yours.”

The air chilled. Or perhaps that was the adrenaline spiking in Mitch’s body.

With a grunt of ruin, Candace bolted forward, shoving Mitch down onto the desk. Books and paperweights fell to the floor. The camisole tore from her body. Candace’s hand was around her throat, and Mitch’s legs were wide open, making herself vulnerable to the greatest menace she had ever known.

“You want to belong to me?” Candace’s grip tightened around Mitch’s throat. Although she could still breathe, Mitch knew how quickly this danger could morph into her demise. Candace didn’t want to kill her, but accidents happened. Crimes of passionhappened. She had to think fast in case it came to that. Even if it meant ruining the investigation.

“Yes,” Mitch said as confidently as she could while another woman’s hand clutched her throat.

“Then you rebuke Vanessa right there. You tell me she’s nothing to you. Do you hear me?” Candace’s fingers pressed into Mitch’s collar. She barely had the wherewithal to clutch her right hand around Candace’s arm, the camera in her ring pointed upward into the woman’s face.

Too bad the camera didn’t transmit. It was merely data to collect later. There would be no one to come save her unless she texted a certain phrase.

“You swear your allegiance to me right now.”

Mitch eventually eased that strong hand off her throat. “Yes, Mistress,” she croaked with barely a cough. “Vanessa is dead to me. I won’t even think of her again. There is only you.” She drew a deep breath, raising her chest along with her head. She was close enough for Candace to kiss, but Mitch knew she wouldn’t. “You are exactly what I’ve been looking for without even realizing it.” She tilted her head. “Tell me what to do, Mistress.”

“Stay. Still.”

Mitch was a rock as Candace hastily rounded her desk and searched for something through her drawers. Only then did Mitch realize that her clothes were mere suggestions now. At least the camisole, which could not be salvaged. She’s the most dangerous animal I’ve ever met.If Mitch was a housecat in heat, then Candace was the starving lioness searching for not only dinner… but life-giving sustenance.

She returned with a sharp pocketknife. Before Mitch could fret that she was about to be bound by blood, Candace sliced the collar off her throat.

And her heart cried out, because that was Vanessa’s.

“I’ll tell you what you’ll do to prove yourself to me.” Candance tossed the pocketknife to the floor and surrounded Mitch with a body that refused to touch her and lips that declined to kiss her. “When you’ve done that, you’re not leaving my bed for aweek.”

Forgive me, Vanessa.Mitch knew where this was going. It was always the plan – and her plan was thus far successful.

The sunrise greeted them when they deplaned in Honolulu. Mitch, wearing clothes given to her by her new “Mistress,” descended the stairs first. Candace did not look back at Mitch, who grabbed the railing and turned down the captain’s offer to help her.
