“He’s right, you know,” Trixie said. “I won’t ever be safe.”

“No, he’s not right,” Blade said. “I’ll never let him anywhere near you. You’ll always be safe, as long as I’m breathing, honey.”

“How about we give them some privacy, Chris?” Wren asked. Yonkers seemed to take a minute before he picked up on what Wren was saying.

“Oh, yeah,” Yonkers said. “Just come on in when you’re finished with whatever you need to do.”

“Thank you for helping me with Bruce,” Trixie said, watching Wren and Yonkers walk back to his house. “I don’t know what I would have done if he had caught up to me.”

“Not a chance,” Blade said. “You’re still the fastest girl I know,” he teased. He used to call her fast in high school and she’d insist that she wasn’t, but he loved to tease her. Nothing had changed really. Blade was still the same guy who drove her crazy, and now, he wanted to marry her.

“Did your walk help?” he asked.

“Actually, it did,” she said. “When I ran into Bruce, I was on my way back to the house to talk to you.”

“Oh?” he asked.

“Yep, I was coming to tell you that I love you too,” she breathed. “I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to tell you that when Bruce caught up to me.”

“You love me?” he asked. Trixie wrapped her arms around his neck, smiling up at him.

“I do love you. I have for a long time, Blade,” she admitted. Blade tugged her closer, wrapping his arms around her waist.

“Does that mean that you’ll marry me?” he asked.

“It does,” she agreed, “as long as your offer still stands.”

“Oh, it still stands, and if you’ll agree to it, I’d love to get married before the New Year. I’d like to start next year with you by my side, as my wife,” he breathed. Her heart felt about ready to burst out of her chest, she was so happy.

“I’d love to marry you before the New Year. What are you doing on New Year’s Eve?” she asked.

Blade picked her up and spun Trixie around the empty street. “I’m getting hitched to the woman I’ve wanted for a damn long time now,” he said. Trixie giggled, holding tight to Blade as he swung her around. He let her slide back down his body as he kissed her and for the first time in a long time, Trixie felt as though everything in her world was as it should be. In a short time, Blade had gone from being the crush she never thought that she had a chance with, to the guy who was going to make all her dreams come true. Talk about a happy Christmas.

Wren

Christmas

Wren walked out to the kitchen to find Yonkers rooting through his refrigerator. Honestly, the man could eat twenty-four hours a day and still look like a Greek god. She had seen the proof for herself when she walked in on him in the shower earlier that morning, and now, all she could think about was his chiseled chest and abs. Hell, she was thinking about so much more than his chest and abs, but if she allowed her imagination to dip much further south, she’d have another hot flash. Yonkers had already caught her checking him out a few times during the day, and he didn’t seem to want any part of what her dirty mind was coming up with.

“Are you hungry?” he asked. “I was going to make a ham sandwich from our leftovers.” He had made a full Christmas feast with ham and all the trimmings, earlier that day. They spent the rest of the day lying on the sofa, watching Christmas movies. But what she really wanted to do was beg him to get her naked and make her his—not that it would do her any good.

“I’d love a ham sandwich,” she said. She pulled the bread from his hands, intentionally letting her fingers brush over his. Yonkers’s gasp filled the small kitchen, and she smiled up at him. Wren knew that she was playing a dangerous game, but she just didn’t care.

“You okay?” she breathed.

“What are you doing to me?” Yonkers asked. She knew exactly what he was asking, even if she wasn’t sure of what her answer should be.

“What do you want me to do to you?” she asked.

“Jesus,” he breathed. “This isn’t right, Wren. Blade would kill me if he knew what I was thinking of doing to you.”

“What are you thinking about doing to me, Chris?” she asked, using his real name. Wren felt as though she was holding her breath waiting for him to respond.

“I want to strip you bare and fuck you over my kitchen table,” he said. Wren let out the breath that she was holding as she looked back over her shoulder at the kitchen table, imagining all the things he’d do to her on it. It was time for her to be bold, but her courage seemed to be MIA. It was now or never. She knew that her time with Yonkers was going to be coming to an end soon. Blade could prove that Bruce had been not only stalking Trixie but also was the one to disable Wren’s security system. Once Bruce was permanently behind bars, there would be no reason for Yonkers to babysit her any longer.
