“Now we need to make snow angels.”

“What?”

She dropped into the snow and moved her arms and legs.

“You’re crazy,” he said. “You’re going to freeze.”

Laughter bubbled from her. It felt so good to be out of that hotel room. Not worrying about what was going to happen between the two of them. Tonight they needed to have a serious discussion because she could not go back to the way things were before.

Suddenly he plopped into the snow beside her and together they made angels. For a moment, she was stunned. But then he merged her snow angel with his.

“Hey, you’re ruining the effect,” she cried.

“No, we’re making baby snow angels,” he said kissing her.

His lips were cold and yet she suddenly felt so warm, she wanted to take her coat off. But that would not be wise.

When they came apart, she gazed into his sapphire eyes and smiled. “This has been fun.”

“Yes,” he said, “though, I’m starting to get cold.”

“We should go back,” she said and reached up and kissed him one last time.

He jumped up and then helped her to her feet. They wiped the snow from their clothes, their fingers touching each other inappropriately, laughing the entire time.

Finally, hand in hand, they walked to the jeep and she couldn’t imagine them going back to being like they were. Yes, she enjoyed his friendship, but the last few days confirmed her love for him. She’d probably been in love with him for years. But now she knew her heart was involved, and if they broke up, she’d be crushed.

Devastated.

Driving out of the parking spot, he traveled slowly and they were soon back at the hotel.

“Let’s visit the gift shop. Maybe they have something in there for your stepmother,” she said, knowing he’d yet to find her a present.

“All right, but I did bring her something small,” he said.

Oh good. She wasn’t certain he’d thought about getting her something. After all, this would be the first time they met.

After they parked the jeep, they walked inside to a crowd of people standing around a man on the floor. The woman they’d met as they got on the elevator was on her knees, crying.

“Ed, please honey, don’t go,” she cried.

Together they rushed over to the man.

“What’s wrong?”

The woman looked up at them with a tear-stained face. “He just dropped. He grabbed his chest and fell to the floor.”

“Move back,” Hannah commanded. “We’re doctors. Has someone called 911?”

“Yes,” a woman said. “They’re on their way.”

Noah had his ear to the man’s chest.

“We need to start compressions,” he said. “You take his mouth and I’ll start compressions.”

Hannah leaned down and puffed into the man’s mouth.

“Does the hotel have an AED machine?” Noah asked.
