“Who said there’s going to be a second one?” she said. “If I live through this, there won’t be any more children.”

Her parents and sisters were standing right outside the door.

“Here it comes,” she cried, starting to pant.

“You’re doing good. Hannah, lift her shoulders and help her press down.”

Ryan knelt between her legs and Noah would never tell him to move. This was his daughter and he wanted to deliver her and Noah would only be there in case of an emergency.

Amelia screamed.

“The baby’s head is crowning,” Ryan said, so excited. “She’s almost here. Come on, honey, you’re doing great.”

It was Christmas Day and Noah couldn’t think of a better gift for Christmas than your own child. He glanced up at Hannah and she had tears in her eyes. He wanted this with her. He wanted for them to have children, to have a baby. He wanted his children to know their background and where they came from. He wanted them to be a part of his extended family.

“One more big push,” Ryan said.

Amelia cursed and screamed just as the infant’s head popped out. Ryan cleared the mucus from her mouth and then he pulled the shoulders out gently and she slipped into his hands.

“Welcome to the world, little one,” he said, tears streaming down his cheeks. The baby let out a wail.

“Give her to me,” Amelia said crying. “I want to meet my daughter.”

He laid the baby on Amelia’s stomach.

“She’s so pretty.”

The baby had a head of dark hair and long lashes lay on her cheeks as she kept trying to open her eyes and look around.

Amelia took a deep breath and then she gave a funny look. Noah knew they needed to deliver the afterbirth right away.

“It hurts,” she said breathing. “It feels like another contraction.”

Rushing to her side, Noah, put his hands on her stomach. “I don’t think you’re done. I think you’re having twins.”

She gasped. “But the sonogram didn’t show twins.”

Hannah gave a chuckle. “One of them was hiding.”

“Mom,” Noah yelled. “Call an ambulance.”

“They’re on their way,” she replied.

“Is something wrong,” Amelia asked.

“No, but we’re not going to take any chances. If you are having two babies, the other one might be smaller. We need to get them to the hospital anyway and get them checked out. Now can you do this again?”

A tear slipped down her cheek. “I’ll do my best.”

Hannah picked up the newborn off her stomach and wrapped her in a blanket.

“Damn overachiever,” Olivia said out in the hallway in a laughing manner. He could tell she didn’t say it to be mean, but rather just a declaration that her sister always did things her own way.

“Come on, you can do this,” Hannah said as she handed the infant to his mother.

A big contraction hit her and Amelia moaned. “Why two, Ryan? Why couldn’t we have just one?”

“Honey, we talked about this. I’m thrilled. But I do hope this one is a boy,” he said.
