A connection, but that didn’t mean he was ready to wire into her sockets and live happily ever after. Right now, he was just helping her in a desperate situation.

The thought of her on the other side of the house, naked in his shower, had his breath catching. Oh yes, that damn connection had him thinking about her in sexual ways. Exactly what she didn’t need at this moment.

Reaching down, his hand closed around his cock and he sighed. Olivia was a temptation fate had delivered, and he wasn’t going to screw this up. It had been so long, and he could see the fear in her eyes. Better to take care of his cock now than to let her see that he’d been instantly attracted to her.

Besides, this was his life. Alone, jerking off in the shower. But at least tonight, he had a face and a body to imagine as he gripped his penis and envisioned Olivia’s full breasts and long legs wrapped around him. Her sweet, full red lips that he longed to taste. The feel of her breasts crushed against his chest as he pounded into her.

Somehow he needed to make her feel at ease, and walking around with a hard-on would only freak her out. She had nothing to worry about from him, but she didn’t know that. She didn’t know he was a good man who respected women and only wanted to find true love. To spend his life beside one woman, honoring and loving her and raising a family.

Children. To have laughter and joy filling this house once again.

Throwing his head back, he moaned as he came alone in the shower. This was his life and he was tired of having no one to share his day with. No one to talk to about his dreams or create a family with. The big ol’ house echoed with the memories of his family.

He turned the water off, grabbed a towel, and quickly dried off. The lights flickered and he felt certain the power would soon go out.

Pulling on a pair of warm pajamas, he took a deep breath and walked into the living room. She sat on his couch frowning at her phone, her long dark hair tumbled forward covering her face.

“I can’t get through to my parents,” she said. “They’ll be worried sick.”

“Try with my phone,” he said. “I’m hooked up to the antenna we have here on the property. Hopefully, you can get through on it.”

She glanced up at him, her sapphire eyes gazing at him with a little less trepidation. Hopefully she would soon relax and realize she had nothing to fear from him. In reality, he was the one who actually had everything to fear from her because he wanted a woman in his life. If he became attached to her, she would break his heart and that thought scared the hell out of him.

Was he so lonely that the first woman to come along he was drawn to? Was he so lonely that he would jump at the chance for romance with just anyone?

No, he refused to feel that way after the last woman had broken off their engagement. This time he was going to be certain.

He’d endured enough pain in the last year. It was time for him to experience happiness again.

She reached up and took the phone from him and quickly dialed her parent’s number.

“Mom,” she said.

“Where are you?” he heard her mother ask, panic in her voice.

“The car is in a ditch,” she said with a whimper. “But I’m okay and I’m staying—”

In that moment, the power died, and in the darkness, he watched her face crumble. Frantically, she redialed.

“No, no, no,” she cried redialing over and over again. The phone was dead.

The generator came on and she handed the phone back to him and covered her face. He’d seen the tears and his chest ached at the sight.

“Hey, what’s wrong? You’re safe, you’re warm, and you can stay here as long as you need to,” he said. “At least your mother knows you’re safe.”

She made a big gulping noise and he knew the sobs were seconds away. What would he do with a crying woman? Tears were something that always got to him.

Reaching out, he pulled her to her feet against his chest. She needed comforting.

“It’s been a horrible day,” she said as the tears seemed to overwhelm her. “Everything went wrong. This is the worst Christmas ever.”

CHAPTER5

Everything that happened today overwhelmed her and the tears came tumbling down her cheeks fast and furious. Sure she’d cried over the big jerk earlier, but this time it was the cumulation of everything.

Being fired, catching her cheating boyfriend, her car landing in a ditch, and now the damn phone not working to let her mother know she was fine.

Sobbing, she leaned against this stranger’s warm chest. “I got fired from my teaching job this morning. I read a Christmas story to the children that one of the parents objected to and they fired me.”
