Sam and the girls met at the Harmony House Inn for lunch. She wanted to treat them and spend some alone time with just the two of them. They’d had virtually no time together since Gray came into her life.

Jessie was madly in love with Jamie and told Sam and Pam all about their relationship. It was much different than Sam and Gray’s. Jamie had loved Kathy very much and losing her had been incredibly hard. He wasn’t sure he would ever get married again, or even have a one-on-one relationship. She said at first it was strained, but he had opened up with her these past few weeks, and she felt things were working out nicely. They were nowhere near getting married, but they both had fallen into a nice relationship. Jamie had finally told Jessie he loved her and she was very excited that he had taken that step.

Pam talked about Tom and their kids. They were remodeling parts of their house, and Pam was excited that she was finally going to be a first-time grandma.

“So, how do you feel about the whole Cheryl thing, Sam?”

She was waiting for that question. She figured Pam would get around to it sooner or later.

“Well, of course, it sucks. You know I have self-esteem issues anyway and knowing that Gray had a relationship with her for about a year bothered me, although I don’t know why. He had a right to a life before me; I just have a hard time with stuff. I tend to compare myself to his past girlfriends and his ex-wife. They are both pretty women. I’m working on it, though. Anyway, the more we’ve learned about Cheryl, and the more crap she does makes it easier for me because I know without a doubt, he would never go back to her. The whole thing is crazy beyond belief.”

Jessie stared at her for a long moment. “How many times have I told you that you are totally beautiful? You don’t need to compare yourself to anyone.”

She smiled. “I just have such a hard time feeling it in my heart.”

Pam took Sam’s hand and squeezed. “Let’s not be morose on the day before Sam gets married to Gray.”

“Agreed.”

They finished their lunch and left for the bridal shop. Debra met them at the door. She looked Tank over a couple of times, and Sam smiled at her. “He’s with me.”

“Okay, well, I have your dress in dressing room number two.”

Tank walked into the dressing room, looked around, and then came out to stand at the door. Jess and Pam were in other dressing rooms trying their dresses on.

Debra piped up, “It was as if that dress was made just for you, Sam. You’re a beautiful bride.”

“Thank you. I feel beautiful.”

After undressing, Debra took Sam’s dress and hung it and bagged it while she dressed. They paid for their purchases and walked out to get into the SUV.

“Do you guys have time to come back to the office with me and see the fourth floor?”

“Absolutely. I’ve heard so much about it. I’m dying to see it,” Pam replied.

Entering Kinkaide & Associates, she lead them to Gray’s office first. She opened the door to say hi and froze.

Suzanne sat in front of Gray’s desk. He sat stone-faced and seemingly displeased. His eyes caught hers and his face completely transformed into the man she’d fallen in love with.

His voice was tight, “Sam, Suzanne came to congratulate us for tomorrow.”

Sam stepped into the office, her friends in tow. Gray stood and met her halfway across the room. He kissed her tenderly, stepped back a half step and looked into her eyes. “How was lunch?”

As if remembering she was meeting friends, his eyes looked beyond her to the doorway. “Come on in, ladies. I hope you had a nice lunch.”

She glanced at her friends, a soft smile on her lips. It was the first time she wasn’t jealous when she was in a room with Suzanne. Not jealous at all.

Jessie’s eyes darted between Suzanne and Gray. “It was wonderful. Of course, the company was fantastic.” She bestowed a large smile on them both.

Pam stepped into the room, glanced at Suzanne then at Gray. “Sam’s going to show us the fourth floor. Then, I’ve got to finish up a few things so tomorrow will be stress free.”

Suzanne stood, the fake smile on her face looked as though her face would crack if she spoke, then she did. “I just came in to wish you both the best day tomorrow and congratulate you. The kids have kept me up to date on what has been going on and I’m very sorry for all you’re going through. I also wanted to apologize for my prior behavior.”

Sam raised a skeptical eyebrow. She wanted to apologize? What the hell was she up to?

She cleared her throat. “Thank you, Suzanne.”

She wasn’t going to go any further than that. She didn’t know what Suzanne was up to, but she wasn’t going to fall all over herself for her either.
