“It’s a deal.” She looked forward to working with him.

They walked around for about an hour and met back up with Jax. He had gone out and gotten his computer and was putting in some numbers and coordinates when they found him at the front of the building. He looked up when they approached and smiled.

“I’m almost finished here. Did you guys find some things you want?”

“Yes, we did. How would you like us to mark them?”

He cocked his head, “I have some masking tape here if it’ll stick. We can put tape on what you want to keep and mark it with instructions.”

As they marked the items, Jax shook his head. “I don’t see how you’re going to make anything out of some of this stuff. But I can’t wait to see it.”

Once they exited the building and walked to their vehicles, Gray asked, “Jax, would you like to join us for lunch?”

“Sure, yeah. Where do you want to go?”

“Let’s go to the Fox Harbor.” Looking at Sam, he asked, “Good?”

“Good,” Sam replied.

She climbed into Gray’s vehicle, her face flushed and smiling. “That was fun!”

He laughed at her and shook his head. “I don’t know many people would think that was fun, but I’m glad you enjoyed yourself.”

He leaned over and kissed her, touching the tip of her nose with his finger. He turned the key in the ignition and backed out of the parking area in front of the old factory. They drove to the Fox Harbor Pub & Grill, a nice little bar and restaurant on the riverfront in downtown Harmony. When the weather was warm, customers could eat outside, but today wasn’t warm enough for that. They sat in the back of the bar area and ordered something to drink.

Gray smiled. “I told Sam you’ve been giving me a hard time about our first meeting and now everyone at the officeandMom and Dad are dying to meet her.”

Her face turned bright red as her head snapped up to gape at Gray.

“What? Jax was there, Sam. He knows everything, and he’s been teasing me relentlessly about it ever since.”

Jax laughed. “My dad is usually fairly reserved, but I’ve never seen him completely speechless. All you had to do was walk into the room, and he was not only speechless, but he also couldn't move, either. While we were sitting there, I leaned over at one point and asked him if he was okay.”

Her face burned, and she looked down at the table. She heard both men laugh and Gray’s arm snaked around her shoulders as he kissed the side of her head.

“It’s okay. I’m happy I met you, even if you did render me speechless.”

She peeked up at him. “I’m happy I met you, too, and I hate to say it, but right now would be a good time to be speechless.”

Laughing, Gray told Jax about Sam’s bike, and they started talking about places they’ve been and places they wanted to see yet. Jax and Ethan also rode. Sarah’s husband just bought a bike, and this would be their first year with it, so they were all hoping to get out and ride a bit. She told them that her boys all had bikes as well and hoped they could all ride together sometime. Their lunch came, and they chatted and enjoyed the remainder of their time together.

After lunch, Jax headed back to the office.

Gray asked, “What would you like to do now?”

“I had no idea you’d be spending the day with me. I would love to see your office or more of your buildings if you want to show me.”

Gray drove her to his office building. It was a fabulous old building on the lake in downtown Harmony—more on the west side of the downtown area than where they’d been that morning. The building was an old storage building back in the day, and to date, they had only converted the first floor, with plans to eventually convert the entire building. The first floor was clean and nice, but she’d expected to see more personality for an architectural firm. It seemed sterile and cold.

As they walked through, Gray introduced her to some of the employees. He explained that many times the architects were out looking at building sites or checking on work sites, so most days, there were only a few people in the office. Gray’s office was at the back. It was a little more comfortable but still felt industrial.

He looked at her expression. “I get the feeling you were expecting something else.”

Her eyes grew wide. “I’m so sorry, I don’t mean to be negative, but I thought it would have more personality, I guess.”

He smiled and shrugged his shoulders. “We’ve been meaning to make changes, but we’re so busy with work and no one takes the time to work on this.” He turned in a circle, then faced her. “Do you want to help with that?”

“Really? You would let me help you with this?”
