They made slow, sweet love and fell asleep with Gray still inside of and on top of her. They slept entwined in each other’s arms for a couple of hours, both sated, happy, and so completely into each other.

Sam sat at her desk pouring over a contract in the early afternoon a couple of weeks after her first dinner with Gray's family. Things had been going along rather nicely. He was easy to talk to, attentive, a great lover, he loved his family, and they genuinely loved him. There was a warm love there that you couldn't fake. She was blissfully happy and hoping she wasn't jumping into the deep end of the pool too soon. Jessie winked and giggled like a schoolgirl throughout the day. Her new beau, Joe, was keeping her happy and content as well. Both women were walking on cloud nine.

Gray and Sam had spent every night together since the first night they’d made love. Usually, they stayed at his place, but sometimes at Sam’s. She told him she wanted people to see activity so there were no shenanigans. They would stay at her place, maybe two nights a week, but she always ran over on her lunch hour to make sure everything was okay.

Today was Friday, and the following day her boys and their families were coming over for dinner to meet Gray, and she wanted to meet Gage’s new girlfriend as well. They decided on an afternoon lunch to keep it casual. She hadn't said much about Gray, other than they had been dating a few weeks and that she liked him and they got along well.

Two Mondays ago had been the one-year anniversary of Tim's death. Sam and the kids met at the cemetery and put flowers on Tim’s grave and told stories about him. Afterward, they went to lunch, and that’s when she told them about Gray. She apologized for the timing, but they were supportive and said it wouldn't bring dad back anyway, so she should move forward with her life. She had great kids.

She finished up her contract and some miscellaneous things on her desk and decided to quickly check her personal email. There was a Facebook message announcing Gray had been tagged in a photo. Naturally, she had to look, but as soon as it opened, her stomach flopped and her heart raced. There was a picture of Gray with Suzanne and Lily looking like the happy family. The date on the picture was today, and the caption read, “Gray and I at school with Lily for Grandparents Day!!! We had such fun.”

Gray hadn't told her he was going to school with Suzanne for Grandparents Day. They had talked about her doubts and concerns and that they needed to be open and honest with each other all the time. As a matter of fact, just this morning she had asked him if he had a busy day ahead and he said, “No, just the usual.”

He lied to her!

The tears streamed down her cheeks. She jumped up and closed her office door so no one would see. She had beensoworried something like this would happen. Of course they were Lily's grandparents, but how was she supposed to be able to trust him when he lied to her? She hated jumping to conclusions, but pictures don't lie, do they? She just needed a minute to get herself under control.

She sat for a few minutes and waited for the tears to stop. She cleaned her face up the best she could, shut her computer down, grabbed her things, and quietly left her office. When she got to her car, her knees shook so badly that she sat for a few minutes to collect herself. She texted Jessie and told her she needed to leave early, and she’d explain later. They were supposed to stay at Gray's tonight, but she didn't know if she could see him right now. She would fall apart for sure. Shit!

She put the car in drive and headed to her place. Maybe she would go down in the basement and work out hard and get some of this aggression out of her system before she saw him. Her mind numb and reeling from that stupid picture, she navigated the roads carefully. Of course, Suzanne would have posted that; she knew Gray and Sam were Facebook friends along with Sarah and Dani.

Entering her house, she threw her purse on the bed and dressed in her workout clothes. She marched downstairs and turned on her Body Combat DVD and started punching and kicking like she never had before. She sweated hard after only twenty minutes but made herself continue the full hour. When she was done, she dropped to the floor, closed her eyes and let out a deep sigh. Dammit!

She was about to collect herself when she heard someone upstairs. Shit! She didn't bring her phone down and didn't have a clock down here, either. She sat and listened to see if it was friend or foe. She could hear walking around and the footsteps on the basement stairs. She pushed herself quietly up the wall until she stood as Gray came around the corner. His face was full of concern and worry.

“What are you doing down here? I thought we were meeting at my place for dinner. I’ve been calling you, and you didn’t answer.”

She stared at him and wiped her eyes, which she was sure were all black from her mascara running into her tears.

“My God, Sam, what's wrong?”

“Nothing, I needed to work out, that’s all.”

Gray took a couple of steps toward her, but she moved away. He bunched up his forehead.

“Hey, what's wrong?”

Sam turned the TV and DVD player off and headed toward the stairs. Gray jumped in front of her and grabbed her arm.

“What. Is. Wrong?”

Sam took a deep breath. “Did you have a nice day?” Her voice strained as she feigned calm.

His brow furrowed further. “I guess.”

She jerked her arm out of his grasp and walked up the stairs.

“Great! Glad to hear it.”

He followed her. Once upstairs she walked to her desk in the far corner of the living room and flipped open her laptop. She opened Facebook and pulled up the picture. She turned her computer around and showed Gray. She walked off to the bathroom to take a shower. She heard him suck in a breath.

“Shit! Sam, please let meexplain.”

“How in the hell do you explain that you lied? I cannot think of any way to EXPLAIN that. You. Lied. To. Me. To be with Suzanne.”

She walked into her bathroom and turned the shower on to warm the water up. He came into the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed. His head hung down. She wasn't sure if he felt bad about lying or about getting caught. Either way, it didn't matter to her right now.
