She tapped her phone to end the call. “Shelia has a potential buyer for my house; I’m going to run over and make sure everything looks presentable. If it’s a late night, I won’t feel like it tomorrow.”

“Do you need help?”

“No, it’s not bad I’m sure. I’ll just vacuum and dust and make sure everything is ready. I won’t be gone long.”

She stood and grabbed her purse from the floor, leaned over to kiss Gray on the lips and with a wave, she sauntered out the door.

After sprucing up the house, she pulled into Gray’s driveway around four and saw another car there that she didn’t recognize.

Walking into the kitchen from the garage, she heard Harry and Mary’s voices. Gray’s parents had come to visit. When Sam entered the living room, they were talking about the flowers outside and when they would like to start working on them. In Wisconsin, Memorial Day was usually the beginning of the gardening season. By then, the fear of frost killing everything had normally passed.

Sam rounded the corner and was met with three big smiles.

“Hello, everyone.” She grinned. Gray held out his arm for her to come and sit with him at the end of the sofa. She snuggled in against him, and he leaned down and kissed her.

“Everything look good?”

“I think so. The house should show well. We’ll see if these are the right people or not tomorrow.”

Mary changed her position on the love seat.

“What will do you then, Sam?”

“I was thinking about a nice little condo or smaller home that’s easier for me to take care of.”

Harry and Mary looked at Gray. Sam shrugged and said, “Do you all mind excusing me? I need to get ready for tonight.”

“Oh, no, you go, dear. We won’t be long. We were driving in the area and thought we’d stop in. You have fun tonight,” Mary said as she stood to hug Sam.

“I’m excited. I’ve never been to this event. It was nice seeing you both.”

After hugging each of them, she turned and walked down the hall to the master bedroom.

She was excited to wear her dress. Truly, she was excited just to get dressed up and feel pretty. She undressed in the bathroom and stepped into the shower. Gray joined her in the shower soon after she climbed in and they enjoyed soaping each other up and playing little shower games.

Gray dressed and went to his office. It wasn’t fair that it didn’t take him as long as it took Sam to look fabulous. She finished dressing, taking her time with her hair and makeup. She wanted to look great for him. Her evening dress was champagne in color, strapless with a split front, and covered in crystals. Brushing the floor and swishing as she walked, the crystals twinkled and glimmered while the rest of the dress hugged her body like a glove.

Gray sat on the sofa watching the news when she entered the room. The appreciation on his face as he examined her was evident.

“Sam, you look simply beautiful.”

He stood and sauntered toward her. He stopped directly in front of her and stared.

“I’m a very lucky man. I’ll be the envy of the entire room tonight.”

He leaned down and kissed her. The smile she bestowed on him was a combination of hunger for his touch and happiness in his attentiveness.

“I think I’m the lucky one. You look gorgeous, Gray. I don’t even have the words to tell you how handsome you are.”

Someone knocked on the door, and the spell was broken.

“That will be the car. We thought it would be nice if we could all have a couple of drinks, so we ordered a limo to pick us all up. We’re first, so we can enjoy some champagne while we pick up the others. Are you ready to go?”

Sam nodded. He held his arm out for her, and she slid hers through, and he escorted her out to the car. Sam slid in first as the driver opened a bottle of champagne, poured them each a glass, and set the champagne in the chiller in the side of the limo.

Gray held his glass up. “To us, to a great evening, and a great life. I love you, Sam.”

“I love you too, Gray.”
