She looked at Mary and Harry in astonishment. They planted these for her? Oh, my God, they were absolutely the most beautiful flowers she’d ever seen.

“Sam, will you marry me? Will you share my life, share my children? Will you be my wife and let me love you forever?”

She was stunned speechless. Looking deep into the deep brown eyes that had first stopped her in her tracks, what she saw was love, and she hoped she radiated that back to him.

“Gray, we haven’t known each other very long. Are you sure?”

“We know enough about each other, Sam. We’ve been through so much, and we’ve made it through, and I meant it, I knew the moment I saw you that God made you for me. I don’t want to wait any longer. At our age, why do we have to wait if we know for sure?”

She continued to gaze into his eyes. She loved this man more than she could have ever imagined loving anyone. Her eyes watered and she knew it wouldn’t be long, and the tears would flow.

Softly, she responded, “Yes, I’ll marry you, love you, share your life, and be your wife.”

Gray stood and picked her up with him and held her tight as he spun her around.

“God Sam, I love you so much. I swear to you, I’ll do everything in my power to make you happy, I promise you.”

Sam laughed. “I’ll do everything in my power to make you happy, too, Gray, I promise you.”

“Oh, wait, we have to make it official.”

He set her down and dropped to one knee, pulled a ring from his pocket. He slid the ring on her left hand. Sam was stunned at how beautiful it was. She stared at it for a long time.

It was the most beautiful ring she had ever seen. A two-carat princess cut diamond in the center. The band had smaller diamonds running up each side shank, which split in two and crisscrossed each other, then came to rest as the prongs for the center diamond. Just under the center diamond on the front and back was a small X in diamonds that looked like it was holding the center diamond up in the air. It was breathtaking.

“Do you like it, Sam?”

A loud sob escaped as she started to speak. “Gray, it’s the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen. Thank you.”

He stood again, and Sam threw her arms around his neck squeezing him tight. He wanted to marry her; he wanted her to be his wife! All the emotions from today caught up to her.

Cupping her face in his hands, he asked, “Sam, will you wear my mark?”

His mark? The tattoo they each wore. “Really?”

He chuckled. “Don’t you believe me when I tell you? I believe you are, without a doubt, my soul mate.”

She cried. The tears rolled so fast she could hardly stop them. He put his fingers under her chin and pulled her face up to look at him.

“Sam?”

She nodded, swallowing and blinking furiously to stem the flow of tears. “Yes,” she croaked. “Yes, Gray, yes.”

Mary and Harry had been silently watching them, and she’d forgot they were there until Mary came up behind her and patted her back. She was wiping tears from her cheeks. Gray hugged his dad while Mary hugged Sam.

“I know I’ve told you this before, but thank you for making my son so happy. He deserves to be happy after all he’s been through. You saved him, Sam. Thank you.”

She spoke between sobs, “He saved me, too. Thank you for everything, Mary, and thank you for the beautiful roses. They’re stunning.”

Mary looked at her ring and beamed. “He did well.” She giggled as Harry pulled her into a big hug.

“Welcome to our family, Sam. Even though you’ve felt like family right from the beginning, I officially welcome you.”

“Harry, thank you for welcoming me and my children into your amazing family. I love you,” she whispered.

Harry patted her back and squeezed her again, unable to speak. Gray joined and picked her up and squeezed her.

“I love you, Sam—so much it scares me.”
