Again...he wasn’t signing up for the job of dating her.

Leilani shook herself and called his number before she could talk herself out of it again.

He answered on the first ring. “This is Angel.”

Her face heated, and her tongue refused to work immediately. “Hey,” she managed to get out.

“Leilani?” he asked, his tone deep and warm, spreading over her like the heated water of a tidal pool, seeping into every pore of her body.

“It’s me,” she said. “I wanted to let you know I just got off a video call with Hank.” She smiled as she remembered the conversation with the couple from Montana. “And Sadie McClain.”

Angel chuckled. “They’re an amazing team. What did you think about them?”

“I liked them immediately. I also researched Brotherhood Protectors on the internet. They’ve done some good things.”

“So? Are you going to let us help you?” he asked.

Leilani nodded, even though Angel couldn’t see her. “Yes.”

“Great! I’ll let the guys know they’re on tonight and tomorrow.”

“Thank you,” Leilani said.

“But before I call them,” Angel said. “I wanted to ask you a question.”

“Go ahead, but I warn you,” she laughed, “I might not know the answer.”

“It’s a simple question requiring only a yes or no.”

“Good,” she braced herself for his query.

“Will you have dinner with me tonight?” Angel asked.

Leilani hadn’t expected that kind of question.

“I—” she swallowed hard.

“We’ll need to go over the details of the assignment,” he added quickly.

“Oh, yes. Of course.” Her cheeks flamed. Leilani was glad he couldn’t see her embarrassment. “Although, dinner isn’t necessary. We could meet in the lobby.”

“I’ll be hungry, and it would kill two birds with one stone,” he persisted. “Of course, if you’re uncomfortable having dinner with me, I completely understand.”

“No. No,” she hurried to say. “Dinner will be fine. I can meet you in one of the resort’s restaurants.”

He suggested the name of the steak and lobster restaurant on the resort. “Six o’clock?”

“I’ll see you at six,” she said. “In the meantime, I’ll let my boat captains know your men will take the night shift at ten and give them a break.”

“Calling my guys now,” he said. “See you soon.”

Leilani ended the call and immediately called her boat captains, letting them know she’d “hired” help to guard the boats overnight, giving them Reid and Dev’s names. After agreeing on the time they should meet at the marina, she ended the last call and stared at her cell phone.

She was going to dinner with a man. “At the most exclusive restaurant on the resort.” She frowned. “I have nothing to wear.”

Literally.

She had nothing that fancy to wear. A glance at the time made her heart kick into overdrive. She had only a couple of hours to find something to wear, shower, do her hair and be there.
