Leilani’s eyes narrowed. “Find anything?”

“Not much more than what I found on Makai. I did find an arrest record from several years back when she was nineteen years old.”

“Arrested for what?” This was the first she’d heard about problems with her future cousin-in-law.

“Assault and battery,” Swede said. “The victim was a female surfer. Apparently, the woman had placed first in a competition and made it a point to rub it in Alyssa’s face. Alyssa beat the shit out of her. Local law enforcement covering the competition had to pull Alyssa off the woman.”

“Seriously?” Leilani shook her head. “Did she serve time?”

“No,” Swede said. “The judge sentenced her to probation and six months of anger management therapy. She also has several credit cards, all maxed out to the tune of thirty thousand dollars.”

Leilani whistled. “I wonder if Makai knows what he’s getting into?”

Angel’s brows lowered as his gaze locked with Leilani’s. “Has she displayed any violent tendencies around you?”

“Not in front of me.” Leilani thought back to the times she’d been with Makai and Alyssa. His fiancée had always been close to him, touching his arm, giving him an occasional kiss. “I’ve never even seen her raise her voice. And the credit card debt could be from what she’s been spending on her wedding.”

Leilani hated the idea of Makai and Alyssa starting their marriage so deeply in debt.

“That’s all I’ve found so far,” Swede said. “I’ll keep you informed of anything else that crops up.”

“Thanks,” Angel said.

After the call ended, Leilani glanced at the clock on her cell phone. “Shoot. We need to get moving. We’ll need to help get the boat ready.”

“Reid’s probably already there to relieve Dev.”

“Yeah, but he won’t know everything the deckhands have to prepare,” Leilani said.

Angel held her door for her as she slipped into the passenger seat of his rental car. Once she was buckled in, he closed her door and hurried to slide in behind the steering wheel.

He drove a few miles per hour over the speed limit to get them there as quickly as possible. They had to stop at the grocery store close to the harbor to purchase several bags of ice and pick up the food and drinks she’d preordered for pickup that morning.

By the time they pulled into the marina parking lot, they were twenty minutes later than Leilani had wanted to arrive.

He’d barely shifted into park when Leilani hopped out of the car. “I’ll get the cart to haul all of this to the boat.

She hurried to the shed between the parking lot and the jetty.

Rather than stay with the car, Angel followed.

He hadn’t been kidding when he’d told her he would stay with her twenty-four-seven. She smiled to herself as she unlocked the shed and pulled out the utility cart they used to move supplies.

Angel took over and wheeled the cart back to the parking lot. Together, they loaded the food, sodas and ice onto the cart.

Once they had everything, Angel pushed the cart out onto the dock, bumping across the wooden planks to where the Windsong II was moored.

Captain Dave waved at them from his perch at the helm on the upper deck. “Got a call from Josh; he’s on his way. He’ll be here just in time to go out with us.”

Reid straightened from sorting through the life vests. “You just missed Dev. He said he’d work the tour, but I sent him back to the resort. He needed a shower and a real bed.”

“Did he say how it went last night?” Angel asked.

“Good until two charter boats came in after dark. They tied off in a couple of the slips. The people on board stayed, playing loud music and drinking until well after midnight.” Reid shook his head. “Dev didn’t get much sleep.”

While Angel and Reid helped Leilani unload the cart onto the boat, Makai appeared on the dock.

Leilani joined him, her brow furrowing. “Hey cousin, what brings you to the harbor so early?”
