Bright red paint had been sprayed across the walls, with the messageNO MORE TOURS.

“It’s just paint, Angel said as they maneuvered the man through the doorway into Leilani’s apartment. “Got any zip ties?”

“Sorry,” Leilani said. “No zip ties. However, I have a scarf you can use to secure his wrists. I’ll get it.”

Leilani ducked into her bedroom and grabbed the scarf off a shelf in the tiny closet. She hurried back to Angel and handed over the pretty scarf she’d never actually worn.

Angel worked quickly, tying the scarf around Brentwood’s wrists. Once the man was secured, Angel rose to his feet, leaving the broker struggling to sit up.

When he did, he glared at Leilani.

“Why did you do this to me?” she asked him.

“You should’ve taken the offer,” Brentwood said.

She shook her head. “And you thought terrorizing me and my employees would wear me down?”

“The money would’ve set you up for the rest of your life if you invested it wisely. You’re a fool to hold onto that land.”

“It belongs to me and my father before me, and his father before him and his father before him. I would never sell it.”

“You say never, but when you have no money and limited access to making more, you will sell to survive.” Brentwood’s lip curled back.

“Speaking from experience?” Leilani quipped.

Brentwood snorted. “Damn right.”

“Yourchoices determineyourtrajectory,” Leilani said. “And your trajectory is headed straight for jail.”

A police officer entered Leilani’s suite. “Got a call about a breaking and entering suspect?”

“You’re in the right place,” Leilani told the officer about the man breaking into her room, then running away to escape, and who was subsequently caught.

The officer listened to Angel’s account as well before he led Brentwood out to his car with Reid and Teller as his escort.

After the police officer left with Brentwood, Leilani remembered she’d been on the phone with Hank. “You still there?” she asked.

“I am,” Hank responded. “Sounds like you caught your guy.”

Leilani looked around the room and realized for the first time that it was over. “We did,” she breathed and sank onto the sofa. “It was Peter Brentwood. The police just hauled him off.”

“You should rest easier tonight,” Hank said. “And you can get your tour business up and running again.”

“I can,” she said. “Thank you, Hank. And thank Swede for me.”

“I will,” he said.

“I can’t believe he did it all for money.” Leilani shook her head.

“His ex-wife took everything,” Hank said. “He was probably pretty desperate.”

“He almost killed my cousin.”

“I heard he made it through surgery all right,” Hank said.

“He did.” Leilani was thankful her cousin survived.

“Let me know if you need anything else,” Hank said. “I’ll have Swede forward everything he found on the video surveillance systems to the Maui Police. In the meantime, get some rest. Tomorrow is a new day full of potential.”
