I realize I’ve backed up against the bar, and she steps toward me, that fire blazing bright in her eyes.

“You told me what you want, Wyatt. Ask me what I want.”

“Lucy . . .”

“Ask me, Wyatt.”

I take a shaky breath, knowing that once the words are out of my mouth, I won’t be able to put them back in. And once we start this again, really start it, I won’t be able to stop. Subconsciously, I know that I’m going to fall in love with Lucy Carter. I think I’ve always been falling for her.

“What do you want, Lucy?” I whisper.

“You, Wyatt. Just you.”

Then I’m reaching for her and she’s in my arms and her lips are on mine again. And in that moment, everything is absolutely perfect.

Chapter Thirty-Five

Lucy

“So,doesthismeanyou’re my boyfriend now?” I ask, wiggling my eyebrows.

Wyatt rests his head on the back of his couch and groans, loudly. We’re sitting on his couch, my feet in his lap and his hand wrapped around my ankle while The Office plays on the TV in front of us. I didn’t think it was possible to be this happy.

“Do you want me to be your boyfriend?” he asks, his lips hitching up in a crooked half-smile that makes my heart stop.

“Are you going to do that all the time now?” I grumble.

He tickles my foot and says, in a high, mocking voice, “Ask me what I want, Wyatt.”

I try to kick him but he catches my ankle again and smirks at me.

“Don’t tease me,” I whine.

“I’m not teasing, I think it’s incredibly attractive. I like a woman who knows what she wants. Especially when what she wants is me.”

I hit him with a throw pillow and he laughs.

“Yes, Lucy. I would love to be your boyfriend,” he says seriously.

“See, was that so hard?”

“No, but teasing you is just so much fun.”

He leans over to give me a quick kiss before standing. I stretch and reach for my phone, reading a few texts from Allie and then one from my mom, asking if Wyatt wants to come over for dinner.

Wyatt sits back down on the couch and casually lifts my feet back into his lap. Like it’s the most normal thing in the world to do—like he’s done it a million times.

“Hey, Wyatt?”

“Yes?”

“My mom wants to know if you’d like to have dinner with us?”

Wyatt nods. “Sure, sounds fun.”

I blink at him. “Are you sure?”

“Yeah. Wait, do you not want me to have dinner with you and your mom?”
