“Of course I do.”

He turns to face me, putting his arm on the back of the couch and raising an eyebrow.

“Okay,” he says slowly, “then why are you chewing your lip like that?”

“I just don’t want you to get freaked out.”

“Why would I get freaked out?”

“I don’t want you thinking we’re moving too fast or anything.”

“Lucy, in case you’ve forgotten, I’ve already met your mom.”

I sigh impatiently. “Yes, I know that.”

“So, what’s the big deal?”

“You haven’t dated anyone, like really dated, in a long time. And you said you wanted to do things right this time. So, I don’t know, should we set some ground rules or something?”

Wyatt rests his head in his hand and smiles at me lazily. It makes my heart skip.

“What kind of rules?”

I groan, “You’re not going to make this easy on me, are you?”

“Where’s the fun in that, sunshine?” He winks.

I narrow my eyes at him and he gives me that crooked smile again, the one that is quickly becoming my favorite.

“Rules, Wyatt. Do we need them?”

He shrugs. “I don’t know. Personally, I’m leaning towards no. I know I haven’t done this whole dating thing in a while, but I do remember the basics. And, not to brag, but I used to be pretty good at it.”

“Wow, so humble.” I mock.

“I want to do all the boyfriend things, Luce. I want this. And I want to have dinner with your mom, okay?”

“Okay. But . . . if you decide you don’t want it anymore, or it gets to be too much, will you tell me?”

“Yes, Lucy, I will tell you. But that won’t happen.”

“You can’t know that. You could get sick of me.”

“Impossible.”

I give him a look and he sighs, leaning forward. “I’ll make you a deal, okay? If a meteor strikes the planet and alters my brain chemistry . . .”

“Wyatt,” I warn.

“. . . and I get sick of you, I promise to tell you. But, on the other hand, when you fall deeply, madly, uncontrollably in love with me, you have to tell me. Deal?”

My cheeks heat as I try, and fail, to hide my smile.

“Deal.”
