My tear ducts gear up for even more. I can feel them burning. No, Ashton didn’t appreciate it. Not at all. But that’s totally not the point right now.

“So, let me get this straight, you caused a fight with Devon because you knew I’d be called in. And you did all this to try and sabotage my date with Ashton, because… what? You’re acting like you’ve got a reason to be jealous.”

Tension lines his face. “Shit, Jonesy.”

“Is that what this is?”

“Okay, fine I’m jealous as fuck. Is that what you want to hear? I’minsanelyjealous of some guy I don’t even know. And you want to know why? Because I want to be the one asking you out, and I want to be the one you say yes to going out with. Not some cocksucker named Ashton. Stupid fucking name,” he grumbles the last part, breathing deeply. His hand grips the back of his neck, squeezing the skin tightly. “But I can’t ask you out because I’m stuck in this place, and you probably wouldn’t go out with me anyway even if I did ask you because you know everything there is to know about me, and you know my life fucking sucks right now. I’m a mess, I screw everything up, and I’ll most likely screw things up with you, too. But I’d never hurt you, just so you know. I’d never fucking hurt you, Sienna.”

I’m too stunned to speak. Voice. Brain. Both gone.

“I want you to be mine, and I want to be yours, and I hate the way we can’t be together because I think we would totally rock beingus.”

I can’t think. I can’t hear. Ashton’s harsh words from earlier are still ringing loudly in my ears, and all I want to do is crawl under the covers and hide away from the world. Such a revelation. Sticks and stones are painful, yeah.Names will never hurt me—whoever made that up obviously has no clue what they were talking about.

Because they hurt. Really hurt.

But Kael’s words.Oh god.Kael’s words are something else entirely.

A heavy tear slips over my lashes and rolls down my cheek. I close my eyes and allow his words to wash over me, bathing me in pleasure, and false hope.

“Fuck this,” he suddenly says, and when my eyes reopen, the intensity in his stare shocks me. He rushes across the room and crowds me back against the door, both hands pressed firmly into the thick wooden panel on either side of my face.

My breath catches right before he slams his lips down over my mouth, and the instant our lips touch it’s like nothing else in the world exists. Everything in the universe stops. There needs to be a new word created for the feelings associated with the way Kael is kissing me. It’s urgent, apologetic, poignant, passionate, and desperate—all of those beautiful things, all at once.

He pulls away slightly, but I lean up to find his mouth again, and that’s all he needs. “Sienna,” he mutters, right before his mouth reconnects with mine. His tongue parts my lips, quickly becoming well acquainted with my tongue as he deepens the kiss.

His hand leaves the wall, gripping the back of my head, pulling me even closer.

Throbbing waves of heat expand inside me, starting at my mouth, and then rolling down through my body, tingling in the hard peaks of my breasts, and then lower. Much lower.

I’ve never felt such intensity in a man’s kiss before. I don’t know who I am anymore. Desire rips through my body, and I don’t want to think about anything else.

Don’t think. Just feel.

Kael’s other hand drops from the wall, and he curls his fingers around my waist, tugging me hard up against him. Everything low in me tenses, and my blood runs hot, racing through me at lightning speed.

Sliding my arms up around his neck, I dig my fingernails into his skin, and then I sink even deeper into the kiss, drowning in it, abandoning everything inside me that’s telling me to pull away from him because words are no longer a reality, and common sense is a thing of the past.

My fingers stroke Kael’s cheek while he kisses me stupid, and holy hell, I really shouldn’t do that because the scratchy feel of his stubble on my palm only intensifies the pleasure building inside me.

Kael groans into my mouth, a deep rumble that leaves me breathless and sends my pulse careening.

Kael wantsme.

I should put a stop to this before it gets out of hand, but I can’t stop exploring his bare shoulders, his thick neck, my nails raking down his bare back, and we’re both panting now, our lips moving together with a near-frantic intensity.

Everything else disappears. The sound of footsteps out in the corridor, the phone ringing at the reception desk, the overhead lights, the horrible night I’ve had, and the sting of Ashton’s words.

It all just fades into perfect oblivion.

There’s a knock on the door behind me, the vibration against my back making me startle and Kael instantly steps back, breathing hard.

“Sienna,” Chad says through the closed door. “You wanted me to tell you when Devon got back to his room. He’s there now. His face is a mess, but the paramedics said his nose isn’t broken.”

“Shit,”Kael hisses under his breath.

“That’s good,” I blurt out, smoothing my hair down with my fingertips, and the whole time Kael just stands there watching me. “Good. Yes… uh, I’ll be out in a second.”
