“Green,” I reply instantly. Because, duh, the girl has the greenest eyes I’ve ever seen in my entire life.

Brinley’s eyes pop open, and her shoulders drop dramatically. “Oh, well, there goes that theory.”

Just then, Jaxon starts counting them in, he bangs out a quick intro, and thenwham, the entire warehouse is instantly flooded with loud rock music that literally shakes the walls, sending a heavy beat right through to the center of my chest.

The electric guitar comes in, followed by the deep thump of the bass guitar, and I can feel the music beating in time with my racing pulse, in perfect sync.

Reed starts singing.“You look at me, thorns on a rose, a feeling that comes and goes…”

It’s a song I recognize from theBlazing Gloryalbum, and every inch of me vibrates with adrenaline as I stare up at the stage in complete wonder.

I love country music, sure, but listening to real rock music being performed by a professional rock band, there are no words for how effortlessly it all falls into place. You can tell the guys have been performing together for years. Every one of them knows their role, and they play off each other like they’re almost flirting with one another.

It’s so freaking hot.

Seeing Kael perform in real life, up on stage, despite the fact it’s only rehearsal, is honestly out of this world. He’s a show stopper. I can’t describe how I feel. It’s a mix of proud, excited, and envious of his passion. I wish I had that much passion for something.

‘You do’my inner goddess whispers to me.Him.

Kael bounces around on the stage, stomping his feet and occasionally he smiles over at Quinn, nodding his head like they’ve got their own secret language. They are so in sync with one another it almost borders on intimate. Their sense of connection up on the stage is a living, breathing organism, and I’ve never seen anything else like it in my life.

Reed is by far the star of the show, though, working the imaginary crowd with hips made for one thing only, and I wonder briefly how Brinley does it. How does she not get jealous of the hordes of women who want to grope him? Or worse still, go home with him. And I’m betting there are plenty. Does she sit at home worrying? Or does she go to every gig? Or am I just over thinking things? No, that doesn’t sound like me at all.

Tearing my eyes off the stage, I glance across at Brinley who is clapping her hands in time with the music, beaming widely as she watches her man put his entire heart and soul into his performance.

By the time they reach the end of the first chorus, my cheeks are sore from smiling.

Cold Neptune is justthatgood.

But it’s Kael I can’t take my eyes off.Holy shit.Kael’s bass playing and the music he’s making with his bare hands, it owns me. I’m totally lost in it.

And inhim.

At the end of the second verse I have tears in my eyes.

“They’re amazing,” I shout, grabbing Brinley’s hand.

“I know, right?” she yells back with an enormous smile on her face. “You should hear them play in front of a massive audience. The atmosphere is insane.”

I can only imagine.Maybe one day?

Reed slides seamlessly into the next verse, and then there’s a repetition of the chorus, but this time he plays around with the words a little, changing some out for other words that weren’t there the first time.

As the song winds down, Reed’s voice fades into the deafening silence that fills the warehouse, and Brinley and I both jump to our feet and break out into applause.

Kael looks up, covering his brows to shield his eyes from the bright fluorescent overhead lights, and when his eyes meet mine at the very back of the room, his smile outshines everything else.

My insides melt.

I smile back at him, biting my bottom lip because that’s what I’ve been reduced to. A fan-girl of the worst kind.

I hear a giggle come from beside me. “I fucking knew it!”

That’s Brinley, the sweet girl.

I’ve probably just given away our entire game plan. But I can’t tear my eyes away from the stage. Kael Jenkins.Hell.

The man has reduced me to a blubbering mess.
