Lia gazed up at Kaden, savoring the stark features of his face as he bent over her. She’d worried that if they ever managed to get in the same bed, it would feel awkward. Not because she was inexperienced, although she had been extremely selective in taking lovers. But because she was certain Kaden had been with the most beautiful women in the world.

The thought was more than a little intimidating for an introverted, small-town girl.

But now that they were finally where she wanted to be, she didn’t feel awkward. She felt . . . exhilarated. Probably because he was studying her with a smoldering hunger that assured her there was no lack of desire. It sizzled in the air between them.

She settled into the soft mattress, allowing a slow smile to curve her lip. “What are you desperate to know?”

His fingers drifted down the curve of her throat. “If you have any secret indulgences.”

Lia tilted back her head, inviting him to continue his caresses. The mere brush of his fingers was sending jolts of sizzling pleasure through her.

“Secret indulgences?” she demanded.

She wasn’t sure what she expected, but it wasn’t for him to swivel on the edge of the mattress until his broad back was turned toward her. Her eyes widened as she felt him gently peel off her socks.

“You know. Secret indulgences, like sneaking off to the spa when you’re in Grange to have your tiny toenails painted.”

Lia snorted. “It’s the middle of winter and I live alone. Who would notice whether or not my toenails are painted?”

She watched as he bent forward; then her breath was trapped in her lungs as he nibbled the tip of her toes.

“A small treat that makes some women happy,” he murmured, stroking his lips up the arch of her foot.

The soft touch tickled, but that wasn’t why she shivered. It was the thrill of excitement that tingled through her as his breath brushed over her bare skin.

With a soft chuckle at her low groan, Kaden turned back to face her, his gaze lingering on her parted lips.

“I have more questions.”

Her heart picked up speed as he reached toward the waistband of her jeans. “Somehow I’m not surprised.” The words came out husky. Lia barely noticed. Her entire being was focused on Kaden. As if the world around them was fading away.

With obvious skill, Kaden unsnapped her jeans and pulled down the zipper. He held her gaze as he firmly tugged the heavy fabric down the length of her legs before dropping them on the floor. Then, cupping her legs in his hands, he messaged her sore muscles from her ankles up her calves and then her slender thighs. Lia sighed in pleasure. Kaden had a magic touch, she concluded. She didn’t know whether to melt in a willing puddle of desire, savoring each caress. Or wrap her arms around him and drag him onto the bed so she could have her wicked way with him.

Her fuzzy thoughts were interrupted when Kaden made a strangled sound. “You do have a secret indulgence,” he murmured, his gaze locked on her panties. They were a tiny triangle of black lace with red velvet ribbons that were tied into bows on her hips. “Very sexy, Lia Porter.”

A ridiculous heat stained her cheeks. “They were a gift.”

He stilled, his eyes abruptly narrowing. “A gift?”

Lia blinked at the hint of jealousy in his tone. Did he think she was wearing a gift from some previous lover?

“From Bailey,” she revealed. “My best friend.”

The tension eased from his face as his gaze returned to the frilly panties. “Bailey has excellent taste,” he assured her, lowering his head to stroke his lips along the waistband. “Black satin.” His tongue touched her bare skin, making her gasp at the fierce heat that darted straight between her legs. “Lace.” He kissed and nipped his way to her hip. Then, grabbing the ribbon between his teeth, he gave it a quick jerk. Lia trembled, her breath coming in shallow pants as he moved to the ribbon on the other hip, easily dispensing with the bow in the same way. A second later, the fragile material slid from her body.

He straightened to gaze down at her, but Lia didn’t feel exposed. Or vulnerable. Not with that hint of awe on his face. She knew with absolute certainty he wasn’t judging her imperfections. He was cherishing her with every soft stroke of his fingers.

“Now I have to know,” he murmured.

She blinked. Heat and passion pulsed through her, making it difficult to think. “Know what?”

“Does your bra match?”

Lia’s breath lodged in her throat, her heart thundering as she battled against her instinct to glance away. In Kaden’s bed she wasn’t shy, timid Lia, she reminded herself. She was daring, take-charge Lia, who could create a financial empire that made her rich beyond her wildest dreams and still manage to keep her family’s store open for business.

She eyed him with a bold challenge. “That’s something you’ll have to discover for yourself.”

His smoky eyes darkened to charcoal as he sucked in a shocked breath. “There’s my reckless Lia,” he said in gruff tones.
