She melted into my touch, and it suddenly hit me that I’d come running in here forher. Not once had it crossed my mind to kill Claude for my sister, but to protect my wife. And only now, as the adrenaline was subsiding, did all the myriad pieces in this power struggle come back. A twinge of guilt flickered through my veins as I remembered Iryna. But I was done shutting Talia out for that sin. My brave, clever bride had slipped behind enemy lines to do the one thing she was trained to do, and she’d put herself in danger to desperately clutch the lifeline that hung between us.

At the base of the stairs, I lifted Talia and wrapped her in my arms, her body tightly pressed against mine. “Don’t you ever do something as dangerous as this again,” I said in a low voice, the words damn near feral.

“Then don’t ever stop seeing who I am, or I’ll consider my promise void,” she said with a soft smile. Her hands cupped my cheeks and then she lowered her lips down to mine.

“Swear it,” I demanded, speaking against her mouth.

“I swear to you, Constantine, I’m yours.”

Chapter 59 – Talia

As we exited the ghettohouse, I wished Constantine could take me back to his villa so we could lose ourselves to the physical desire smoldering between us. Viktor, however, put a stop to that. He had come sailing outside moments later with Claude’s phone in his hands.

“I’m glad you had me take this, Con,” he chirped, slapping my husband on the back. “There’s likely enough data on it to track Gustave.”

Constantine froze, one hand on the truck’s door handle. “Do you want to speak any louder? I’m not quite sure the rest of the street heard you.”

Viktor snorted. “They’ll likely call Gustave in to take care of the body. We should set up surveillance.”

“Without that phone, I doubt they’ll get ahold of my father easily,” I murmured. Feeling the heavy gaze of another, I lifted my eyes and caught the blood shot ones of the cousin. Adrian stared back at me, his eyes hard, before turning to jump into another vehicle.

“Keeping an eye on Claude’s body isn’t a bad idea,” Constantine mused quietly.

“I’ll get my guys on it,” Viktor boomed, smiling broadly in defiance when Constantine glared pointedly at him again.

“I was going to contact Spyder Security—” Constantine began, but the Russian cut him off with a wave.

“We’re partners now. My men will take care of it.” This time he spoke in a hushed tone.

“We’ve not discussed a partnership,” Constantine responded, his tone taking a deadly edge.

“It’s on the agenda.” Viktor’s lip twitched into a half smile. “But...can we speak of it elsewhere?”

“On that, I can agree.” Constantine pulled the door open and swept his hand for me to enter.

“Well, I took enough gory photos that if we get the pleasure, I’ll forward them to the devil. But don’t worry, I won’t send them until the phone is safe in my sister’s hands,” Viktor assured us. “We’ve got a good shot at catching this fucker.”
