Pushing past the guard, Daniel and I hurried into the boatyard, not running because it would draw too much attention, but moving at a fast clip, nonetheless. We walked right up to the sleek, black cigar boat.El Monstruo. The big gold letters shone in the sunlight. The Monster– how fitting. Daniel jumped over the side, and I bent to slip the mooring lines. This powerful vessel would make it to our target in a clip.I’m coming Talia. Hold tight.

Daniel already had the control panel off and was counting the wires. I risked a peek at my watch. Tapping the screen, a stone dropped into my stomach to see the distance. Even with a meet up, it was going to cost precious seconds. Daniel cursed, but then the motor gurgled. “There. That’ll do it,” he said.

With the ignition hotwired and the motor started, I did a quick calculation. “How fast can these go?” I asked, moving toward the captain’s seat.

“The speedometer is high, but I think you could safely keep it under a 100 miles per hour in open water.” Daniel reached around me to tap the screen. I took the wheel and maneuvered the boat out of the wharf. Someone shouted from two docks over. I trolled the boat out of the mess of ships. Daniel shouted back at the attendant, but I didn’t bother trying to follow the string of conversation.

We cleared the bay without disturbance. If there were water police here, they weren’t patrolling in this little lagoon. Once we reached open water, I cranked the throttle down and openedThe Monsterup. Sea water sprayed around the boat as the prow cut through the waves.

My mind churned with the situation at hand. There would be a delay when we reached our boat. And if we used the sea scooters to conduct a stealth approach, we would go much slower. I looked at the thin red dot on my smart watch. This was it. Talia was in danger. Every second mattered. It could already be too—

I refused to finish that thought. It was not too late! It couldn’t be.

Clenching my jaw, I slammed the throttle down right to the end. From the corner of my eye, I saw the sideways glance Daniel shot me. We’d hurtled past the spot where our vessel was to intercept us. My trusted employee didn’t say anything, merely took out his phone and tapped the screen, no doubt telling the others of the change in plan. They could proceed toward us and come in as the cavalry. I was going after my wife.

It wasn’t until we were half a mile from the red dot that Daniel bent his head.

“Boss,” he muttered.

“You can stay in the boat,” I clipped.

Daniel tipped his head so that he looked at me under a darkening brow. “That’s not an option, and you know it.”

“Then suit up.”

“Con, you’re going in hot.” Daniel let out a frustrated sigh. “I hate to say it, but this girl has you doing rash things.”

“So be it.” I wasn’t listening to him. I couldn’t believe I’d listened to any of them! Talia should be safe, and I’d been a fool to agree to her going into danger.

“And if the devil isn’t there? If she’s being taken to him by whoever grabbed her at the pharmacy?”

“Then we get whoever’s got her to squeal.” I spotted a speck out on the water. It was a sleek, double level yacht. Well...my stolen boat was faster.

Daniel busied himself with getting his automatic rifle out of his duffle. He wouldn’t be sniping out here. However, he did grab a pair of binoculars.

“Anything?” I snapped.

“No, just a single male at the wheel. They’ve no doubt spotted us.”

“We’ll make contact in less than a minute.” I cut the speed and cranked the wheel hard.

Daniel cursed and clutched a hand bar for dear life.

I’m coming, princess.
