I roared, surging forward. He would pay! If it was the last thing I did—

Three shots rang out in quick succession. I grabbed the devil’s throat, my own surprise mirrored on his features. A bright red flower burst open on the devil’s forehead, blooming quickly and then dripping down his face. I snarled at Gustav as the light drained from his eyes. He was dead.

Not sparing a glance at my shoulder, which pulsed with maddening pain, I spun around in a defensive crouch to see someone standing in the doorway. Blood soaked the stranger’s shirt from an exit wound. He dropped his gun in defeat. Slowly, his fingers trailed to the gaping hole in his abdomen.

“Are you an idiot?” the stranger in the doorway rasped, leaning on the frame as he clutched his chest. Breathing hard between his clenched teeth, he fell to his knees. “Take care of her, butcher, or I’ll haunt you from the beyond.”

With that, the man choked on his blood and tipped forward. I struggled to my feet, already moving to Talia as the stranger fell. My own blood loss was making it hard to focus on what was happening, but instinct drove me to her. I knelt—more like stumbled—to the floor and cupped her face while simultaneously feeling for her pulse.

‘I kissed thee ere I killed thee: no way but this, killing myself, to die upon a kiss.’The lines of poetry flitted through my head with morbid perspicacity.

“Drakos! You’re bleeding!” Daniel was at my side, hands reaching for my shoulder.

I swatted him away. “Talia—” I gasped.

“It’s just a blow to the head. She’ll live.” Daniel wrestled me back, pushing something against my shoulder. My fist swung out and clipped him.

Ignoring him, I scrambled forward and pulled Talia into my arms. Her eyes fluttered open, and twin orbs of the purest onyx gazed up at me.

“Constantine?” It was the softest whisper on her lips.

A rush of relief had me sagging backward. Or maybe it was blood loss. I blinked and the room swam into a different arrangement. I was now on my back, and Talia, clutching her head against the heel of her hand, was shaking me.

“Constantine! Wake up! Please,” she moaned.

“Quit moving him until I can stop the bleeding,” Daniel snapped.

My wild beauty glared at him. A string of violent commands fluttered from her lips. My brain couldn’t focus on what they meant. The sound, however, was fierce and beautiful. I watched her lips.I want to kiss you, just one more time.No sooner had I thought it than the world faded into darkness.

Epilogue – Talia

Iwas an orphan. Itwas the second-best thing that had ever happened to me. The first was arranging a marriage to the angel of death himself.

The devil was dead. Justin had shot his boss to save Constantine’s life. But not knowing what was happening, Daniel killed my father’s chauffeur with deadly accuracy. However, the nightmare didn’t end there. My father’s bullet had left Constantine with a nasty injury, one he almost didn’t survive.

I sashayed out of the bedroom of the sex hut that opened right onto the ocean and dropped onto the chaise lounge where my still-bandaged husband reclined.
