I grunted.

“I don’t think the blood stain from the previous owner will come off the white velvet case,” she teased, turning to face the mirror and continuing to primp. “Are your hands clean at least?”

“Yes,” I ground out, fisting my hands at my side. The skin strained against my knuckles.

“Of course you washed them. What was I thinking? You rarely come home all bloody. What happened last night, anyway?” Iryna peered at me through the mirror.

I shrugged. “The target fought back.”

Iryna hummed under her breath and closed her clutch. I knew what she was thinking. That I was distracted, and I shouldn’t have worked the night before marrying the daughter of the devil.

“You ready?” I breathed.

Iryna beamed, doing another little twirl. “This might be my best fashion choice yet. Pity it’s spoiled on such a dreadful occasion.”

If only she knew....

I chewed on my secret, knowing I would have to come clean. Best to get it over with. “The ring we commissioned from Spyder Security—it worked.”

Iryna’s brow lifted, and her head tipped to the side as she considered me. She was poised, waiting for me to let the other shoe drop.

“Last night, the devil conferred with his spawn on how they plan to end me.”

Iryna sucked in a sharp breath. “I told you!”

Annoyance ticked in my mind. “Wealready suspected she could be a threat.”

Iryna pursed her lips and shook her head. “And still you’re going to marry her.”

“We’re going to let this play out. She’s our best link to ending the devil himself,” I said firmly, cutting my hand through the air. That was the final word on the subject.

“What will be her planned method of attack?” Iryna whispered, features drawn.

“Poison. Hidden within her jewelry.”

Iryna swallowed hard.

“Adrian will take care of it when the luggage goes back to our villa, Yna. Everything will be fine.”

“But what if she’s cunning and finds a way to hurt you, despite all our precautions?”

“It won’t happen in the next few days. She’s going to be at a disadvantage. We’ve already planned our next moves.” I huffed a small laugh at the thought of Talia Beaumont even attempting to attack me. “Let’s go.”

“Yes, let’s go watch you make the biggest mistake of your life.” She offered me her arm. “Shall we?”

My brows shot to my hairline. Iryna was letting meescorther in? That wasn’t how we normally rolled. “I thought we’d walk in side by side as equals tonight.”

That tinkling laugh escaped her lips as she rolled her eyes. “Not tonight. Tonight, I’ll suck it up and endure physical touch because you’re not just any man, adelfós. And it’s a wedding, after all. A dumb one, but still.”

“Yna,” I gently urged. “I don’t have to touch you.”

“It will be fine.”

My chest constricted with a rare but powerful emotion. “I’m honored.”

“I know.Se agapó.”

“And I you.” I crooked my elbow for her to slip her arm into. She was steel as she stepped in time beside me.
