I clenched my other hand into a fist on my desk and kept pace with her.

Head thrown back and arching in pleasure, she was a torturous sight. I couldn’t hear her cries, neither could I smell her arousal, but imagining them sufficed...for now.

I exploded in my hand, making a mess. But it didn’t matter. Because Talia was writhing in completion. We were both panting in our joint pleasure.Fucking hell, wife. What are you doing to me?

Chapter 24 – Talia

Two dresses lay sideby side. The dusty rose was one I’d purchased for my trousseau. It was simply designed, luscious and beautiful, with pleats and flowy fabric. And then there was the other. It had been lying in wait for me, placed there by a member of the staff when I came up to change for dinner. It was stunning, the color of burnished gold, with beads covering every inch. I’d been undecided as to whether I should wear it or not.

Putting that decision off, I’d showered and done my hair and makeup, but now the choice had to be made. The new gown was flashy, so different from anything I’d ever owned. It wasn’t too short and the neckline wouldn’t reveal too much, but the lines of the gown would make me look like a Grecian goddess. There were also stilettos, with long golden straps to run up my calves.

I loved it on sight and wanted to wear it. But at the same time, I didn’t. It was what this new dress represented, namely that it was my husband’s selection and not mine. And that grated.I’m not his doll.

The rebuttal came swift and sudden. It’s just a dress.

My teardrop pendant would still compliment the new gown, and since it was what my beast of a husband wanted, I would be a fool to not oblige. Tossing up my hands, I made short work of dropping my robe and pulling the gold dress over my body. I strapped the heels on before trying to zip myself into the number. But as I stood, I realized my predicament.Blast!

I pursed my lips and glared at the door. Rolling my eyes, I held the gown in place and exited, but not before slipping a pair of dangling gold earrings into my lobes and settling my necklace around my throat.

Tonight, I would be a widow.

When I’d emailed my father about my failure to gain passage on the ships for his product, my father’s reply had been short and to the point. There was one reason I was here, and it was to end the tyrant of the seas. There had been no answer onwhatwas on the ships. I didn’t dare press that score or tell my father that the knowledge could gain us passage. It would only enrage my father, and Drakos likely wouldn’t move with the information anyway. So, my path was simple: kill my husband.

Why would my father ask me to gain passage when it was likely to fail?Chewing on that question, I marched down the hall toward my prey. I crossed the breezeway and stopped short at the third door. The sound of my fist pounding on the wood echoed through the upper level.

“Drakos! Open up,” I bellowed.

The door flung open, and there stood—

“Wow,” I blurted out before I could think better of it. The crisp black and white suit hugged my husband in all the right places.Did he look this good on our wedding day?

It wasn’t like we had formal pictures taken, as had been planned and paid for—a complete waste of time since I was planning to be a widow—but now I wished I had them regardless.

“Yes?” The butcher slipped his hands into his pockets.

“I need help.” I turned around and indicated with a toss of my head that the zipper needed fastening.
