“I don’t like this, Bones...” Izzy called out in a panicked voice. “Where the hell is she?”

“Like I know,” Sam grumbled. “Since she refuses to tell me anything, I can’t know what happened to her. I’ve been wondering where she was all night. I know if she could, she’d be here with her kids.”

“So where is she then?” Izzy cried. “You gotta find her.”

“I don’t know yet, but I’ll find her. At least, I’m gonna try.” Sam looked toward the door as he heard someone knocking, “Hang on, there’s someone at the door.” He laid his phone on the counter and went to answer the door. When he opened it, he found himself looking at two men in blue uniforms. “Can I help you, Officers?” He frowned. God, don’t let this be bad. Fucking please don’t. His fear for Melora just went up to a level he couldn’t handle.

“We need to inform you of a car that’s been abandoned in the ditch near the small town of Bath, New York,” one of the officers told him as he flashed his badge. “The car is registered to Samuel Tory and Melora Tory. Is that you, sir?”

Sam nodded. “Yeah, I’m Sam Tory. Was my wife in the car?” He could barely get the words out.

“No sir, there was no one in the vehicle but we found it full of bullet holes,” the officer told him.

Sam felt his heart jump as he glared at him. “Bullet holes?”

“Yes sir, there were at least eight of them,” the officer explained. “Then we also found blood on the front seat of the vehicle but whose blood we don’t yet know.”

“Well, my wife isn’t home at the moment but when she gets home, I’ll have her call you ok?” Sam nodded at them and went to shut the door.

One of the officers stopped the door from closing in their faces. “You make sure she contacts us as soon as she returns ok?”

“Yeah, yeah, I hear ya.” Sam managed to shut the door. He walked back to the phone and told Izzy, “That was the cops. Her car was found abandoned on the side of the road over by Bath with bullet holes all over it. What the hell has she gotten herself into? They didn’t find her but they did find blood on the passenger's seat.”

Izzy caught her breath. “Oh, my God... no!”

“You tell your husband to call me when he gets his lazy ass out of bed.” Sam fairly growled. “This is about his daughter and he needs to know what the cops just told me.” He ended the call and wanted to throw it against the wall. He didn’t but he really wanted to. Now he was really worried about Melora. Did she get shot? What the hell had she gotten herself into and why was she as far away as Bath? Why had someone shot the hell out of her car and whose blood was found on the seat? Where the hell was she?

Would she ever walk through the front door again? Ever come home to her children and her husband again? Sam ran his hands over his head and growled at the thought of never seeing her again. His chest felt tight as he began to pace, going to the front door and peeking out the window to see if she was out there. He then paced across the living room to the patio door, searching the entire backyard, hoping to find her there as well.

From the front door to the patio door, he wore a path on the floor, but he never found any sign of her. Finally, TBone got up and walked out to the living room. “Daddy, what are you doing here? Is Mama home yet?”

Sam hung his head. “No T, she’s not home yet.” He looked at the clock to see it was now 7 am. “Come on kiddo, you got to get ready for school.”

TBone came over and looked up at him. “Can I stay home today at least until Mama gets home? I’m worried about her. She’s never been gone all night before.”

Sam squatted down and looked at him. “Your mom wouldn’t like that, son. She’d get mad at me if I let you stay home. You should be in school anyway. Don’t worry about her, that’s my job. Hopefully, she’ll be here by the time you get home. Ok?”

The kid looked crestfallen. “Ok, Dad, I’ll go to school but I’m not likin’ it. I should be home when she gets back here. What if she needs me? What if she’s crying again? I gotta be here.”

Sam felt like he just got gut-punched. Her crying and TBone comforting her. Mostly because of him and how he’d been acting. He shook his head. “No boy, you should be in school. That’s what she would want for you.”

TBone sighed hard and turned to go get dressed. Sam watched him go down the hall and shook his head. Look at what you’re missing, woman. You need to get your ass home. In one piece preferably. He tried hard not to think of her never coming home. He’d never felt real fear before, not that he could remember. But he did now. Sam began pacing again as it was all he could seem to do. He couldn’t sit still. He couldn’t even breathe easily.

The next thing he knew, Shaw was awake and letting him know she wasn’t a happy camper anymore. He let out a heavy sigh and then walked down the hall to get his daughter. He changed her diaper and her clothes. He didn’t want her upset, so he kissed her cheeks and tickled her. Finally, lifting her up, he carried her to the kitchen to get both her and T some breakfast.

He decided on scrambled eggs and toast.

Getting busy, he figured he at least had something to do besides fucking pace a hole into the damn floors. He then burned the toast and almost set the stove on fire. Hell, he knew how to cook, but his mind wasn’t right. He had to start all over again.

Finally, when everyone was done eating, Sam told his son to go brush his teeth and get ready for the bus.

Twenty minutes later, Sam was holding Shaw in his arms as he watched TBone get on the bus. He watched the bus go down the street until he could no longer see it before he went back inside the house.

He put Shaw in her playpen and then tapped Izzy’s number. When she answered, he demanded to speak to Mountain. When Mountain answered Sam growled, “Have you heard from Melora yet?”

“No, I haven’t. I’ve been making some calls, trying to find her but no one has seen her since early yesterday morning when she dropped Shaw off at Redemption House. Have you heard any more from anyone?”

“No, I haven’t. There’s something very wrong here, old man,” Sam snarled.
