Papa Doc growled low as he replied, “Son, I don’t know where ya got your information but not only no, but hell fucking no. I run girls but dey are all old enough to be legal. A four year old child? That ain’t legal and I don’t swing dat young. Dat’s just plain ole disgusting, man. Whoever told you I was pressuring dem to turn their baby over to me is just plain lying. I may push da drug, but I have a few morals left.” He huffed a few times and then said, “I may not deal in babies but I know who does and it would be da Minions. Dey are just breaking in da field and those bastards just don’t give a shit about da cops busting dem. Dey think they got enough cops in their payroll they don’t need ta worry, but son, when you break the law like dat, you’re gonna have ta pay the piper one day.”

“Sorry, Papa. I had to ask but this affects my family. I had to know,” Boss explained

“I hear what you be saying boy, and I’m glad you came to da source rather dan rely on hearsay. I don’t like liars and those dat said what you heard, weh dey straight up lied to you. But I know who dey be and I’ll take care of dat right pronto. I will set da record straight, don’t you worry.”

The call went dead on Doc’s end.

Boss looked over at his brothers. “Well, at least we know.”

Sam snorted. “Yeah and you might have started a street war between Papa Doc and the Minions.”

“Well, they shouldn’t have lied about this to start with.” Taker growled.

Just then, they all heard tiny footsteps coming down the hall.

“Daddy?” The small girl came around the corner of the living room and stopped in her tracks upon seeing so many men in the room.

Danny turned and held out his arms to her.

Breanna ran to him to be picked up and held by her dad. She quietly looked around the room and cuddled closer to his dad.

“Breanna, honey, these guys are your uncles, your mom’s brothers,” Danny told his child.

Breanna frowned and looked around the room again. “I got uncles?”

“Yeah baby, you got uncles,” Danny assured her.

“Why didn’t I never see them before?” she asked her daddy.

“I don’t know baby, I guess they were too busy to stop and see us before. Maybe they didn’t know where we lived.”

Melora came over to her and smiled. “Would you like some juice, honey? I know when Shaw gets up she always wants juice.” She held out her arms.

Breanna went with her willingly. “Do you have apple juice? I like apple juice.”

“You know what?” Melora asked. “So does my baby Shaw. She likes apple juice too.”

Sam stared at Taker and Boss. “So now what? You found Danny and Breanna and you also found out that your sister sent you on a goose case, what you boys gonna do now?”

“Well, we sure as hell ain’t giving her access to Breanna.” Taker shook his head. “That just ain’t gonna happen.” He looked over at Danny. “If what we found out today is true and we have no reason to think it isn’t, then Rylan has a lot to explain to us. We figured she was still with you and that baby. We had no idea that she left and hooked up with Crank. Then on top of that, she lied to us. That just won’t work here. She put us at odds with Papa Doc and the Minions and that sure as hell don’t work. We gonna have a showdown with her and it ain’t gonna be pretty, but we’ll try to take it outside this town.”

“Besides...” Flame shrugged.“You didn’t have to tell your daughter who we were but you did. Hell, it made me feel like an ass, because we haven’t been around. She didn’t even know us.” Shaking his head he admitted, “We’re her uncles and she didn’t even know us.”

“Well, I don’t feel safe living in Chicago anymore,” Danny told them. “Hopefully, I’ll be able to find a job and a life out here. I don’t want Crank or Rylan to know where we were. I know you won’t lie to her but please don’t tell her where you found us. Breanna is my child alone. Rylan never wanted her and turned her back on a helpless baby but I did not. I don’t want her to live the same childhood I did. The way Melora and I grew up was lonely and everyone turned their backs on us but I never wanted my child to have to endure that. My kid wasn’t gonna get shuffled off and forgotten in the system.”

Boss shook his head and said,“I guess I never thought about that. I grew up with three brothers and a sister and I thought we had bad times, but we weren’t alone.”

Danny nodded. “Yeah well, I was. Melora at least had her mom for a time but then she went from a home to a bedroom with no privacy, no one there to call her own and a series of shitty homes where no one cared about her. I was her friend for a while but it never lasted as we got moved around so much. We tried to keep in touch but even that was lost in the shuffle. But she was there when I needed her and let me tell you guys something, that’s what counts. When you have someone in your corner when it really counts. She was the only one in the whole world I could trust with Breanna’s life and my own. I owe her more than I can ever repay her.”

“Hush,” Melora stated as she shook her head. “You don’t own me a thing.”

Danny turned around and asked her, “What about your car? The one the Minions shot all to hell in Bath? Is your husband gonna forget about that?”

“He already has,” Sam stated. “That’s what insurance is for.”

“What about her hiding us from you?” Danny asked. “Are you willing to forgive her for that too?”

Sam narrowed his eyes at him and nodded his head slowly. “Yeah, I am. I fucked up when I accused her of stuff she would never have done. She wouldn’t or couldn’t tell me about you and I hated that, but now I see why. She told me it wasn’t her story to tell and I didn’t listen to her. All I could see was the hurt in her eyes. I thought things that she couldn’t have done. I’m the one who should beg her for forgiveness and I will. That she helped you? Well, let's just say that doesn’t surprise me none. She’s that kind of woman and I thank God every single day that she’s my woman. Whether you believe that or not, I believe it and that’s all that matters.”
