HUDSON

The engine purrs to a stop, and I can’t help but steal glances at Harper as she gazes out the window with wide eyes, taking in our surroundings. The way the anticipation lights up her face makes my pulse race, and for a moment, it’s almost impossible not to imagine what other expressions I could coax from her.

And those curves…they’re fitting for a baker, and I picture myself licking every one that her body has to offer.

“Where are we?” she asks, turning those stunning green eyes on me. Her curiosity only adds to her allure, and it takes all of my self-control not to reach out and touch her right then and there.

“Welcome to the Christmas tree lot,” I say, unable to suppress a grin. “I’m in charge of picking out and buying a tree this year, so I figured I’d make it fun by bringing you along with me.”

“I thought we were going home?”

“Was there something else you had in mind for us tonight?” I smirk.

“No!” Her cheeks turn red.

“If you say so.”

“Wait,” she says, shock written across her features. “You mean we’re going to cut down a tree? Just like that? Because I have a feeling it’s not going to fit in the back of the car.”

“Relax,” I tell her, chuckling at her concern. “We’re just picking one out. They’ll cut it down and deliver it for us later.”

Her expression softens, and I can see the wheels turning in her head as she processes this new information. There’s something about her innocence that drives me wild, and it’s becoming more and more difficult to keep my hands to myself.

“You wouldn’t rather do this with someone who actually lives with you?”

“Is that your way of saying you don’t want to be here with me?”

“Not at all!”

“Then, let’s go.”

“Alright,” she finally agrees, still seeming a bit unsure. “Let’s go pick out a tree. This is exciting. I’ve never done this before—picked out a real tree, that is. All of mine have always been fake.”

“You’ve missed out,” I tell her, my voice low and seductive. “There’s nothing like the smell of a real Christmas tree.”

“Really?” Harper questions, her eyebrows raised in skepticism. “I’ve smelled candles before that were supposed to smell like pine trees.”

I laugh softly, shaking my head. “That’s nothing like the real thing, sweetheart. Trust me.”

I get out of the car before making my way over to her side. I open the car door for Harper and take her hand, pulling her out of the car. My body brushes against hers, and the contact makes me want more.

Leaning close, I whisper into her ear, “It’ll be fun.” My breath warms her skin, causing goosebumps on her neck.

Her response is a soft sigh, and I can see the desire flicker in her eyes. A part of me wants to abandon this tree-picking adventure altogether and explore what could happen between us right here and now. But another part—the part of me that wants to show her something truly special—urges me to wait just a little bit longer.

Something like this doesn’t need to be rushed.

The scent of fresh pine and earth fills the air as we enter the tree lot, a sea of green stretching out before us. Even without snow on the ground yet, it’s impossible not to be drawn in by the beauty of it all—the way the sun filters through the branches, casting dappled shadows on the ground, the gentle rustle of needles in the breeze.

“Wow,” Harper breathes, her eyes widening in awe. “It’s like a whole other world.”

I can’t help but grin at her reaction, feeling a surge of pride that I was able to bring her here. “Told you it was nothing like those candles,” I tease, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.

As we begin browsing through the various trees, I can feel the tension between us growing, our connection deepening with each shared glance and brush of skin. The desire is palpable, and I know we’re both feeling it.

It’s not like anyone is here if I wanted to just?—

“Can I help you two?” A man’s voice interrupts our reverie, and I can’t help but bristle at the intrusion. He’s attempting to check Harper out, his gaze lingering on her curves in a way that makes my blood boil.
