ThoughneitherIsaiahorRukia had expressed interest in having a mating party, a celebration had been planned without their knowledge. When they’d returned to Paracel, following several days in Utah, the entire host of the Elemental township and Isaiah’s clan had been waiting for them.

A surprise party.

Or, at least, as much of a surprise as you could pull over on a twelve-hundred-year-old Raeth sovereign and his rather shrewd mate. It’d been as much of a celebration of their union as a joining of two formerly disparate communities.

It’d gone over swimmingly, and even Rukia and Isaiah had enjoyed themselves in the end.

Now, three days later, the pair of them sat serenely on the rock cliff above their home, watching the sunset over the Utah landscape. What Rukia had found was that her mate was immune to embarrassment, and constantly practiced some form of public affection when he was near her.

Rukia didn’t mind in the slightest. She delighted whenever he reinforced his love through eager affection. Sighing contentedly, she leaned back into his chest from where she sat nestled between his legs.

“So, where do you want to put the lake?”

A rumble of laughter sounded from behind her, and he tightened his grip around her waist. “Planning some new additions to your territory, are you?”

“It’s far too dry here,” she retorted, her fingertips running along the top ridge of his thigh in a move that made the man behind her dip his head and breath in her scent. “I’ll dry out like a sponge if I don’t have some form of fountain in which to dip my feet.”

“Wouldn’t want that,” growled Isaiah, trailing his lips up the sensitive side of her neck in a sensual line of kisses.

Shivering, Rukia tilted her head to the side to allow him better access, desire igniting in her blood with such fervor that she unconsciously dug her nails into his thigh.

“Naughty woman.”

The light sensation of his breath on her neck only made her heart beat faster. Cinched around her waist, his arms possessively rested against her abdomen, the massive Raeth male claiming her completely.

Beating back the seductive urge to turn in his arms and tackle him back into their bed once more, Rukia shook her head. “The children will love swimming. It’ll give them a nice reprieve from the dust.”

“Emma loved the lake in Paracel.” His teeth nipped her neck possessively, sending another shudder through her. “And I do quite enjoy seeing you in a bikini.”

Rukia’s lips turned up in a wide smile, laughter exploding out of her. All of a sudden, her happiness overwhelmed her, the weight of it pressing against her like a tangible weight. Tears pricked at the back of her eyes as her hands came up to cover Isaiah’s arms.

“I love you, Isaiah.”

The Raeth behind her softened instantly, his head resting gently against hers in as she melted into him. “I love you, too, Rukia, more than anything.”

They simply held each other, content. They were finally complete, two parts of a soul linked together to make a whole.
