Rage darkened Kaien’s features before he slowly pivoted to Remmus. “She.Drank. From. You?”

“Kaien…”

Blair saw the thread of trepidation in Remmus’ eyes, the instinctive way that Kaien held himself one that precipice of violence. The realization churned in her gut that she’d been unknowingly provoking the bear, and right now, that bear was seconds away from giving into the rage beating through his veins.

She took her only option. Tentatively, her fingers reached out to stroke languidly over his rock-hard bicep. Her words, when she spoke them, were whispered.

“Remmus, leave.”

Remmus’ attention flicked to her a second before he teleported away, leaving Blair alone with a Raeth who was quivering with the force of holding his caustic impulses at bay. Kaien’s eyes were yet riveted to the spot where the other male had disappeared.

“Kaien, look at me.”

Deep in Kaien’s chest, a guttural growl thundered, making every hair on her body stand up on end in instinctual warning. This reaction, this possessive beast that’d overtaken every sensibility of the male before her, was controlling him on a far deeper level. Every protective instinct in him was heightened. The animalistic tendency of the mating mind of a male Raeth had occluded his higher reasoning.

And it was her entirely her fault.

Chapter Seventeen

Kaiengrappledwiththemadness that scorched through his veins like a flow of pyroclastic lava. Beneath his skin, corded muscle shivered with the stress of holding himself together, of pushing back the predator that desired nothing more than hunting for the invader who’d dared touch his female.

Only the electric burn of Blair’s fingertips on his arm kept him from hunting down the Raeth who’d kissed her and gleefully eviscerating him.

His breath, coming in ragged gasps, stuttered through him as he fought to control his fleeting sanity. Jealousy, thick and black, had risen like bile in his throat, overwhelming all reason when he’d seen Remmus wrapped around Blair like a forlorn lover, his lips claiming hers.

Another primal growl rumbled in his chest.

“Kaien.” Blair’s words were a plea, abrasively battling against the furious ire scorching in his blood. “Forgive me. Forgive Remmus. He didn’t know.”

He turned on her with the unseeing stare of a predator stalking his prey. “You’re mine!”

Without waiting for her acceptance, his crushing grip wrapped around the back of her neck and he all but dragged her into his body, his mouth slanting over hers with wildness.

But Blair surprised him.

Instead of retreating at his sudden ferocity, she matched it with her own. Blair’s nails raked down the side of his neck, her groan invigorating them both. They deepened the union of their mouths, Blair’s fangs grazed his lip with a move that mixed pain with pleasure.

Hissing with bliss, Kaien’s hands roamed over her back, never relenting from the shared intimacy of their kiss. She was his, she belonged tohim, and he needed her to understand what he couldn’t put into words.

Her fingers coiled in his short mane, plucking his mouth away from hers, before she brought her lips to his throat. Blair’s teeth skimmed over his Adam’s apple before sinking into the soft flesh above it with an ownership he’d never felt from her.

Anger and passion collided in a coil of friction and frustration, neither willing to give an inch, but somehow ending up succumbing just the same.

“You’re mine, Blair,” he breathed hoarsely.

He delighted in the claiming way her teeth bit into his neck. Sensation roared through his blood, leaving a trail of lingering heat in its wake. When she released him, he leveled a heady gaze at her mouth, tinged scarlet with the barest traces of his blood.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself, Raeth,” she warned, but the seductive tint in her icy blue eyes claimed otherwise. “I belong to no man.”

Snarling, he wrapped his arms around her possessively and teleported them to the intimacy of his bedroom. The dizzying feeling of his abrupt teleport dissipated when her fingernails raked over his biceps, tracking down his skin, and trailing red behind them.

Heat crawled over his skin, loosening the primal snarl from his mouth. Gripping her throat, he claimed her lips once more, dark delight spilling through him at the savage way she ravaged him. They fell, their lips locked together, onto the plush comforter, desperate for each other.

Even as the sun rose, they didn’t come up for air.

As dusk approached, they lay curled into each other beneath the covers of Kaien’s comforter, Blair’s fingertips delicately tracing the corded muscles of his forearm. She’d woken only minutes ago, and he contented in her purr as she snuggled further into his frame.
