“I have no idea what day it is.”

“Same.” Zara grinned. “I’m pretty sure it’s Thursday. And January.”

Raina laughed, scooting closer to look at Zara’s phone. “So I’m a Cancer.”

“Correct.”

“What do I look at?” she asked, peering at the Instagram picture on Zara’s screen.

Zara swiped to the next picture. “Here. See, this is a Cancer one. And here, this one is Taylor Swift songs based on your sign.”

“Cancer—‘Love Story’,” Raina read. “Ooh, I like that song!”

“I’m ‘Delicate’,” Zara said, handing over the phone.

“So how accurate are these?” Raina browsed through a few more quizzes, clicking on one that claimed it could tell you the first initial in your future husband’s name. Her finger hovered over the questions, but did she want to do it? Would she be disappointed if it didn’t give her the answer she wanted? And did she even know what answer she wanted?

“They don’t mean anything. It’s just fun to see the answers.”

Raina nodded. “So, like, don’t put stock in them?”

“Not at all.” Zara snorted.

“According to this, ‘I wear my heart on my sleeve. I treasure a few close friends over a larger group, which is good, because I value creating emotional connections. I also care too much, which can turn people away. But it’s okay because I’m close to my friends and family, and I always have them to turn to.’”

“That sounds pretty accurate to me,” Zara pointed out. “You really do care, Raina. And we love that about you.”

“Not everyone,” Raina said ruefully. Nicole had never taken a liking to her, and Jesse…well, Jesse had run once he discovered how much Raina cared. “And I’m not super close to my family.”

“You are pretty tight-knit, even if you and your mom fight a lot. But even so, a real family isn’t always the one you were born with. It’s the one you create.”

“I guess.”

Raina glanced back down at the phone, scrolling to a picture of compatible zodiacs. According to the chart, Taurus and Cancer were compatible. So why weren’t she and Jesse compatible in real life?

ChapterFive

“Cohen!” A sharp voice called out, interrupting Raina’s quiet trek to the dining hall.

Sighing, Raina slung her bag over her shoulder and turned to see Nicole and Dean approaching. She hadn’t slept much that night, eventually forcing herself out of bed and getting some homework done at four a.m. It took a full night’s sleep to deal with Nicole, not two hours.

“Yes?”

“After your last class, library, be there.” Nicole scowled at her. “Got it?”

Raina checked her mental schedule. “Um, yes, that wor—”

“Good,” Nicole replied shortly, before pushing past her down the stairs.

Raina stared after her. She was doing a perfectly good job of being civil, but it seemed as if Nicole couldn’t even manage that.

“Hey, Raina, how’s it going?” Dean asked, falling into step next to her.

“It’s going well,” Raina said politely. Well, other than Jesse ignoring her for the past few weeks, now suddenly having to interact with both Jesse and Nicole, and having no idea how either of them were feeling. “How are you?”

“Good, good.”

Raina shot him a glance out of the corner of her eye. They weren’t super close, but Dean seemed like a decent guy. Still, it was rare for the two of them to talk by themselves.
