“So true.” I grinned back at him and glanced around, feeling the love of my family and friends swell and meet me.

When I looked back at my soon-to-be husband, I was overwhelmed with happiness. “I love you, Iain.”

His eyes heated, full of promise for the future. “And I love you, beautiful Veronica.”

The elder began to speak and, together, Iain and I took the first step into our new life.

Epilogue: 3 years later.

VERONICA.

In the end, we didn’t get pregnant right away. Quite the opposite. We discussed it and decided we wanted time to enjoy being together, being married, being young.

So we worked side by side in my father’s fields, building homes and digging trenches for new crops. Then we went traveling in the human realm and I showed him Greece, and then Spain. He loved the warmth and the beauty of the human realm as much as I did. We went swimming in ice cold oceans and drank cocktails beside swimming pools, and I had never been happier in my life.

We did things that no other dragon shifters had done, or none that I knew of, anyway.

It was amazing. And I was so blessed to have Iain by my side for the adventure of life.

When I found out I was pregnant, I had a strong hankering for my mom. I wanted to go home to my family.

So, we did. Three years almost to the day since we’d been married.

On our return, I stood in the upstairs library, my hand on my growing belly. I glanced out the window and couldn’t stop the huge smile at the incredible happiness I felt. I was content with my life in a way I never thought I’d be.

Footsteps made me turn and I suddenly got an incredibly strong feeling of déjà vu, a memory of this exact moment flashing into my brain.

Oh wow, I realized. This is the moment I saw all those years ago.

Tears filled my eyes as I turned to face my husband and walked toward him.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, jogging to close the distance between us as soon as he noticed my tears.

I held out my arms and he swept me into his embrace before leading me to the couches.

“Are you okay?” he asked, his hand hovering near my belly. “Is it the baby?”

I shook my head and wiped away the bothersome tears. Bloody pregnancy hormones. “No, I’m fine. So is she.”

We’d both decided our baby was a little girl. We wouldn’t know for sure, of course, until the day she was born, but we only had a girl’s name picked out. It was going to be very awkward in that delivery room if our baby came out more like his father than expected.

“Then what is it?”

The baby shifted and rolled, so I pulled Iain’s hand forward to the place on my belly where he’d be able to feel her hands and feet.

“I just realized that this is the moment I saw all those years ago. When Anthony accidentally gave me a vision before I went to the human realm. This... exactly this.”

I glanced around and pointed. “I saw the stained-glass window. I saw myself, like this.” I cupped my belly. “Then I heard footsteps and turned around, and it was you.”

He grinned at me. “So it all came true, huh?”

“Yeah... and you know what was even more shocking to me in that vision than the fact that you were my mate?”

He huffed out a laugh. “I’m almost afraid to ask, but sure. Tell me.”

I whacked him softly on the arm. “Don’t be afraid to ask. It’s not bad.”

He gripped my chin softly, then leaned forward and kissed me on the lips. “Okay. Tell me.”

“It was how happy I looked in that moment that shocked me more than anything else.”

Iain pushed my hair back off my face and tucked it behind my ear in a move as gentle as it was considerate. “How come, beautiful?”

“Because back then I was so... unsettled. Angry, almost all of the time. I couldn’t imagine being so happy. Pregnant. Married. It just seemed so... unbelievable. I thought it must be a lie. Or my mind playing tricks. I just... couldn’t understand how I could ever reach a place of such joy.”

“I’m glad.” Iain put an arm around my shoulders and slid close beside me so he could stare out the window, too. “I feel exactly the same. So happy, as if life has fallen into place exactly as it was meant to, for both of us.” He huffed out an amused breath. “Looks like we’re meant to be after all.”

I kissed my husband’s cheek then lay my head on his shoulder, enjoying snuggling against him. His gorgeous scent rose around me and I drew it into my lungs. “Of course, we are. I never doubted it.”

I giggled as he shook with laughter, but didn’t raise my head again. My beautiful prince knew me better than anyone, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t still tease him a little. Life really could be as perfect as a dream, and it took our fated mate love to prove it.
