“Me?” Jaydy said with a laugh, scrunching her adorable nose. “I wouldn’t call living in a tiny American town with no family and only a few friends anywhere near incredible.”

I raised my eyebrows at her. “Jaydy, you’re a powerful witch who could literally live anywhere and do anything. If you choose to stay in Salem, then there’s probably a reason for it.”

She blinked at me, surprised. “And how do you know that about me?”

I winked at her. “That’s my magic, remember? Santa knows all.”

She blushed deeply, her cheeks as cherry red as her beautiful hair.

I cackled out a laugh. “Not anythingnaughty, Jaydy, don’t worry. And I’m only kidding. It’s just obvious to me that if a witch with powers great enough to impress my elves stays in her tiny hometown, there’s likely a reason for it.”

She nodded, swallowing obviously. “I suppose so.”

My heart thumped a little harder, making my nerves stretch even more thinly. “But really, the question is, are you ready for something different? Something, more?”

She bit her plump, sexy lower lip and stared up at me, unspeaking.

My gut twisted.Am I wrong about her being the woman for me?“Or is there someone, or something that’s keeping you there Jaydy? A guy perhaps?”

She gave me a stern look, one eyebrow raised in return. “Do you really think I’d jump into bed with you if I already had a boyfriend?”

“I’d hope not,” I said with a shrug. “But if it’s not the love of a man, then what’s keeping you in Salem, Jaydy?”

She looked away.

On instinct I reached out to softly grip her chin and bring her face back to me. I needed to see the truth in her eyes.

“I’m not sure,” she began. I mean... I love Pansy, and part of me has always wanted to be near her. She’s so different from the rest of the community. She’s down-to-earth, and so are her parents; so, I kind of wanted to stay by her parents in case they needed me. They’ve always been closer than blood to me.”

I was beginning to understand and see the larger picture here. “So, even though you’ve always had the magic and power at your disposal to live anywhere, you stayed near the only family who ever loved you.”

She nodded with a small smile.

“And your work?” I enquired, more for selfish reasons than anything else.

“I enjoy my work, but really, it’s the kind of job I could do anywhere. And it’s not exactly stimulating,” she admitted.

I reached out for her hand. “So, is it possible that you might be open to a change?”

Her smile this time was mind-meltingly seductive. “Are you offering me a job, Nicky? Because I’m pretty sure your elves have literally got everything covered here.”

Fear skittled through me, but I pushed through. It wasn’t the time to let fear conquer me. Now was the moment for courage. It was time to tell her the truth. The truth sets you free...“The only position available up here is the job of Mrs. Claus. Do you think that’s something you’d consider?” I asked, my heart hitching in my throat. Her swift intake of breath had me hanging with bated breath.

“Am I qualified for that sort of role? What does it involve?” Her eyes widened.

I reached for her waist with both hands, sliding around the elastic of her pretty skirt to pull her closer. “Well, wanting to live with me forever is probably the only thing that’s not negotiable.”

Smiling softly, she stepped even closer and slid her hands up my chest. “Forever’s a long time. Are you sure you want to live with me for that long? My own parents don’t like being around me.” Unshed tears welled in her eyes.

Her pain stabbed me like a knife in the chest, and I couldn’t stop myself from telling her the full truth. I cupped her beloved face with both of my hands, then kissed her lips tenderly, before lowering my gaze to meet hers.

“Sweetheart, Fate sent you to me. I feel it in my very soul that you’re perfect for me. So, if you’ll have me, I want you to stay. Be my wife. Be my Mrs. Claus. Run the town with your amazing skill and talents, and love the elves as I do. I know you will because I can feel the generosity in your soul. It emanates from you like a rainbow of pure light. You’re good right to your core, Jaydy. And I’d be the luckiest man in the world to have you at my side.”

She blinked and the tears she’d been trying so valiantly to hold back slid down her cheeks like drops of dew.

I used my thumbs to gently brush them away. The smile she offered in return gave me the courage to say what needed to be said. “Be mine forever, Jaydy.”

She didn’t answer, not with words. Instead she pressed in closer, her delicious curves melding into me as she lifted her lips up to mine.
